I'm old enough to remember the Sixers' public announcer -- starting at guard, Mo Cheeeeekz! He would draw out the eeees and then a very sudden ending, hissing the s so that it almost sounded like a z. I liked that.

Meh. Maybe get someone that can complement Billy's lack of tactical presence. Like when Doc had Thibs in Boston. Coaching staff certainly need improvement. Billy should've already been fired by this point. You can defend him all you want, but he's given a lot of chances and he hasn't been able to deliver results for 3 years now.

While I know this is mostly snark, and setting aside Mo since he is moving to a different role of his own volition, one assumes Fleming was mostly a Billy decision and not AK. Presumably Billy has pretty thorough control over the hiring/firing of his assistants.

This to me seems a nothingburger. Given this team's malaise, not surprising to try and change something up in the coaching staff. I don't think that makes it either a scapegoat of "aha, now this new AC corps will leapfrog us forward," neither is it unhelpful.

I also doubt significantly that this will be heralded by the FO as the "change" they were discussing and/or needed. It's probably helpful on the margin to get a new head in there (obviously depending on who they bring in, if it's Boylen then unhelpful).

Ha won't be Boylen, think he is happy with being on the Pacers staff. Now Jim Boylan.... well he might be available.

We have to collect them all:
Jim Boylin -- Currently a plumber, but may consider a career change
Jim Boylon -- Currently a dermatologist, may be harder to lure
Jim Boylun -- Presently deceased, but still may be preferable to Boylen and Boylan

Those are the candidates.

If Boylin is union highly unlikely he is looking for a change.

I'd love to see us nab JJ Reddick and give him a year or two of experience to have him take over for Billy.

He is not leaving a job making millions of dollars to be an underpaid assistant coach.

So get a head coach....someone who has tactical and strategic presence...the main thing a Coach needs to strive in the role....if we're looking for someone with that might as well be throwing Billy to the curb (as we should be doing).

I mean look at exactly what you said Doc had Thibs...its becoming more and more clear that Doc Rivers was a bad coach and that Thibs might have been the true "coach" as he's had better success. Truth of the matter is Billy needs to go and we need to find a coach we can stick to, while giving them someone who can groom them (ie: Spoelstra has Pat Riley), find yourself a young"ish" coach and bring in a Phil Jackson or Doug Collins to groom them behind the scenes.

What is Billy's contract? Is it for life? I am starting to get a bit concerned by the secrecy of the extension. In the search for new assistants is Billy a lame duck or just lame?

That should be without question. But that's not the course AK is going with.

IMO, we should be keeping Billy. I would consider getting rid of him if we had a contending team, but if we've got a bunch of young guys, he's decent at developing them.

He had that chance with OKC. He decided to leave. So I don't know if he's still interested in developing young players more than a chance to coach a contending team. His NBA successes have always been when he had veteran All-Star players. But I agree that he's good in developing young talent, I just don't know if that's his interest.

True. But we aren't tanking, but we should be so lucky to turn things around like they did.
