Not to mention, the Bucks at the time was considered as reaching for an extremely raw prospect in Giannis at the time with the 15th pick, and Nikola was a second rounder for crying out loud. It's extremely rare for franchises to turn their team around by drafting a star player outside of the lottery, let alone a future MVP and generational players.

The Raptors were already a very solid team, a team which were in the playoffs year after year, before taking a gamble on Kwahi a one year rental, which worked out for them as they secured a championship.

Also, you could argue that the Bucks have underachieved while having Giannis on the team, and have only made it worse by trading a lot for an aging star player, and not having enough youth throughout the roster. And the Nuggets are still TBD, let's see how they continue to do in the next few years.

And don't forget, that the Raptors were a legitimate playoff team for a long stretch, despite them being bounced a lot in the semi's, they had a real playoff team unlike us, where we are barely a play-in team. Even if we were to somehow trade for Kwahi, he pushes us to being a legitimate playoff team, not a championship contender, that's how far off we are.

I think that's why it's important to find a star player (they don't have to be generational player like Giannis or Jokic) to build around. Without said player the Bulls won't be a serious contender. Once you get that player then you figure out the rest of the roster.

Free agents don't care if you're a competitive play-in or first round exit team and nobody is demanding to come to Chicago.
