Derrick Rose's popularity in Chicago, how big is it?

I don't live in Chicago anymore, haven't lived their since 2001 so I am not sure how the hype is around Derrick Rose. Thus I was wondering how big is his popularity? Is his popularity going to exceed that of Pippen's in town?

The Bulls get no media attention around Chicago until the season comes around. And even then they'll probably be an afterthought to the Blackhawks this year until they achieve anything notable.

As for any of the recent Rose controversy, it's usaully reported but with little zeal or conviction. Basically he's not front or back page material yet.

The feeling I get is that more people are aware of him outside Chicago than in it. That's just my personal assessment. And I think that's pretty sad, but then again, this is a baseball town first, then a football town, then a baseball town again, then a hockey town, and lastly, a basketball town.

The Bulls are the 5th most important sports franchise in the city. That's pretty sad, despite the fact that they've had much more playoff success even in recent years than the 0 for 100 franchise that plays in a genius marketing cash cow bar for tens of thousands disguised as a baseball stadium.

I don't live in Chicago, but I have to admit that I'm surprised NBA basketball isn't bigger there than it is. Not only did it have the best, and most exciting, player of all time grace the city, but it is also arguably the best high school talent factory in the country, putting out a tremendous number of D-I players and eventual NBA stars.

Chicago is not a baseball city, Chicago is first a football city whoever thinks the Bears aren't the biggest thing in Chicago doesn't live in Chicago because it's very apparent. Baseball is next and then Basketball. This past year was a re-birth you could say of Hockey but the Bulls sell out every home game even when we sucked total a$$.

Do people really believe that the Bulls are the 5th most important? I'm sorry but it's going to take more than one good season from the Blackhawks to take a leap past the Bulls.

Hell you barely see a Hawks game on t.v and they get even less than the Bulls on sportstalk radio stations.

He has to be by far one of the most popular basketball players to come out of Chicago in a long time.

I remembered when I was balling at the gym and these two guys got to arguing about what a "traveling call was" part of one guy's defense was "Man, I'm from the WEST SIDE. DERRICK ROSE NATION. I think I know how to play basketball"

This is when he just left for Memphis too, before he played for the Bulls.

And what poll option does that translate to?

His popularity doesn't sleep. It just waits.
