GM James,

I like that deal even better. Bass is a great asset at a great price - $4 million per year including 2010. Great to have going forward or as a piece in a S&T. Your proposed deal would shave $1.8 million off our salaries for next year, which should be enough to get us under the cap. If we want to play it real safe, we can trade our 2010 pick for a 2011 pick and save $1 million more.

Looks like the Bulls are indeed shopping John Salmons.

Only player off the Magic I want that could be had is Vince Carter

WTF? Vince Carter? Maybe 10 years ago, but he hasn't aged well - and that contract is atrocious.

This may be the "pending" deal that Sam Smith talked about in his recent letters.

As a Magic fan I haven't seen much of Salmons other than in last years playoffs. What are his strengths and weaknesses?

I'd just like to point out that I browsed through the Magic forums and they don't seem to think he's as a bad a defender as we are saying. I personally haven't seen much of the Magic, so I don't have my own opinion...but reading through the opinions of Magic fans, it can't hurt to have this guy around. He shoots well and hustles. He also has leadership qualities.

And if he does turn out to be a downgrade, Poohdini is right. This is the scenario most fans wanted just a month ago. Salmons has increased his value. We wanted this and now we are second guessing.

I think this is a pretty good trade. I'd say we downgrade in talent but we cover a need to get another shooter, plus we clear the necessary cap room to make an offer to a full boat player next year. Salmons also gets to go to a quality team that would want him because they are over the cap this year and next year. I also think getting another point guard wouldn't be a bad idea.

We have to do some kind of deal like this.

Edit: It should also be noted that this deal doesn't preclude us from making a blockbuster deal at the deadline for a star.

So will JJ become our Rudy Fernandez lite?

Seems like JJ is playing better than Rudy right now anyway.

Exactly. This deal reminds me of the trade chatter about Brad Miller going to the Bulls last year.Bulls and Kings were adding, removing players from the deal(according to Tech9ne) ..in the end..the deadline came and the trade was made.

I have watched quite a few Magic games and have this take on JJ, His defense is surprisingly good as I always thought he was slow but he's quicker than you think and stronger also. His shooting is seemingly not as good as I thought it would be coming out of college but its not bad so really the upside vs. Salmons is contract only. Salmons can go to the basket better than JJ and IMHO is at least as good if not better shooter especially under duress. JJ can't really create a shot for himself where Salmons can and that's important in the playoffs when defenses tighten up.

Lets ignore that he sucks this season and that his game is in a complete free-fall. He makes almost $18 million next season, which would essentially make him the Bulls 2010 acquisition. End of story. No free agents.

Still want him?
