Trading Fausto Carmona

With Carmona's currently deflated ERA and our relatively low need for a marginal upgrade in starting pitching over the next 1.5 years I think it is in our best interest to trade Carmona. A much more detailed look into the situation can be found: http://sabrtribe.blogspot.com/2010/06/case-for-trading-fausto-carmona_15.html

I understand the reasoning, but I would ultimately hate the move. Ultimately these are the sort of moves we have to eventual consider. We no longer can operate like the 90's and while the moves of CC, Lee, and Martinez still sting they were the right decision. I think we have more time to wait before moving Fausto but eventually will probably have to come to that realization.

The difference between Lee, Victor and CC is that their numbers were not temporarily inflated and loaded with good-luck indicators. I think Fausto's trade value would be dramatically higher now than it would be during the offseason or in following seasons - plus, quite frankly, we need the money right now. I think Carmona is a fine player and I would, ideally, like to have him around but given that we will not be contending for at least another year we would unnecessarily be eating his salary during that time and with only a market-value contract that doesn't make very much sense - especially when we could get a nice package in return.

Looks like the Mets are interested in him.

Im sure we could pluck some decent prospects off of them.

Fausto's only "injuries" have been above his shoulders..not below. He's got such "movable parts" windup that it's easy for him to lose command.
