Rockies give O'Dowd, Hurdle contract extensions

Post#1 » by MHZ » Mon Apr 2, 2007 6:48 pm

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies extended the contracts of general manager Dan O'Dowd and manager Clint Hurdle through 2009 on Monday. Both had been entering the final year of their deals.

O'Dowd, 47, is entering his eighth season as GM. He was selected the second general manager in franchise history on Sept. 20, 1999. Hurdle, 49, is beginning his fifth season as the Rockies' manager, a job he took on April 26, 2002.

Hurdle has never had a winning record and is 352-436 overall entering the Rockies' opener against Arizona on Monday at Coors Field. The Rockies finished 76-86 last year.

i really don't get this. i don't mind dealin' dan (i dont like him, but i dont dislike him either), but i really dont like clint hurdle and was hoping for a change there after this year.

but in all reality, i guess both of those positions don't really matter because what matters the most is the owners we have right now who won't spend more than a dime on players, and that's our real problem.

I actually like this signing, the only thing I don't really like about O'Dowd is I dont think he gives the team enough time to develope, one year were all about speed, the next all about power and so on, hopefully this year that changes, I think we have a good core right now. Hurdle Im O.K. with I dont think we would really improve either way by having him or not having him, I dont really see too many big mistakes though so I guess hes alright.

This can't be happening. Hurdle is the worst manager. They need new blood anyways. Also I think a new GM would be good; and hey while i'm at it, new owners!
