2011 Expectations

Post#1 » by m23uza1hem36 » Tue Mar 15, 2011 10:20 pm

I've been busy recently with sports and school, and haven't been able to follow the team much at all. But what do we look like for the '11 season? What are your guys expectations? I know Miguel has had some drinking issues, I think he'll be fine in the long run however.

Hard to say. There are a couple of major wildcards that could make or break our season. To name a few...

Will Porcello take the next step? Can Jackson avoid regression and develop appropriately?

Can Raburn play good ball for more than 1/3 of a season?

Will Leyland continue to manage in his strange/awful ways (the mail it in sunday lineup jumps to mind)?

Is Cabby focused? Sober?

Let's say all of what you listed works on out in a way that favors us (theoretically, of course) what would you expect?

Hows the pitching rotation look? It wasn't awful last year, at least I don't believe it was.

I think the ceiling is winning the Central and making the playoffs as a 2 or 3 seed. I don't think even in our best scenario we are good enough to win more regular season games than the winner of the AL East. And can we win the World Series if we make the playoffs? Sure, every team is in it once you get down to the final eight teams.

But that is the best scenario, more likely we flirt with the playoffs all year before falling around .500 and finishing behind the White Sox or the Twins or both. There just doesn't seem to be much heart with this team the last few years.

Well I would say if you just check out all the posts on the current page of this board that will pretty much sum up everybody's expectations for this year. I have a question for you though, what's the meaning of your username? I'm kind of stumped and I crave information lol.

If those positive things happen and the negative things don't, I absolutely expect us to win the Central and challenge hard in the playoffs. IF we imagine Porcello progresses, than the Verlander/Scherzer/Porcello 1-2-3 combo is deadly. absolutely deadly. Coke could be really solid too. I believe in the bullpen already, so pitching then is a major strength. And looking at the Yanks and Red Sux starters, we could really set ourselves apart here.

For hitting, with Cabby (again, assumed) hitting well and Raburn/Jackson able to provide something, we have a nice little lineup. Not Boston or NY, but good enough to provide support for the pitching. VMart will provide some protection for Cabby and could have mega RBI numbers this year.

That answer the question?

This is an easy question, the Tigers will win it all end of story.and no i will not bet on that.So after the world series i will say i have told you so before the start of the season.I am not 100% they could lose depending on the opposing team but i am leaning the other way.

Bold prediction considering our entire infield looks terrible sans Cabrera.

Offense. The Tigers will have their challenges there. You can already imagine what they'll be hunting at the July trade deadline, assuming they're in the chase. Key to the back end of their order will be catcher Alex Avila. He has the stuff to hit for a decent average with a healthy slugging percentage, and that's what the Tigers will absolutely need from their starting catcher

Well not really happy with that first atbat of AJ. He did well to watch some balls and work the pitch count up, but the big issue that he needs to work on is lowering his strikeouts and improving his batting efficiency, and that is a problem that is fueled by his weak batting mechanics and bad habits that he slips into. On that last pitch, he lifted his leg up way too early and already put it down well before the ball arrived because of the bad timing. It's not a good sign to see that the first atbat and he's already taking a sloppy approach, that's the kind of stuff they need to hammer out in spring training, and if they don't fix that then he's going to have all kinds of problems at the plate this year. I wouldn't be surprised if our hitting coach and Leyland are oblivious to his mechanical problems anyhow, so I guess it's something he will have to figure out on his own.
