That was one for the record books. The fact he did it against ATL makes it even better, they were KILLING it for a while.

What pitching rotations can you remember that are as good or better than this year's Tigers? I've got two:

The Braves with Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Neagle, and Millwood

The Mets with Gooden, Cone, Darling, Fernandez, Aguilera

Verlander-Sanchez-Scherzer-Fister-(Porcello) is pretty damned good.

Don Kelly plays every freaking game. I like his versatility and defense, but seriously...he does not need to play daily. Quit resting Hunter every other game. Goodness

I was a big fan of the Phillies rotation a few years back, but I think we have a chance to be just as good. Lets see how long we keep ours together, the one that has me worried is Scherzer, but I have a feeling Mr. I will keep him around

For God's sake, get Alex freakin' Avila OUT OF THE 6TH SPOT! This is not 2011. He's hitting .189 with a .265 OBP 39 games into the season. Time to get him the f**k outta that spot. Dude is a human rally-killer.

Guy behind him? Jhonny Peralta...batting .326 in the 7th spot. And how about the 9th spot? Omar Infante...batting .316, with whatever .200 garbage at #8 in front of him. Why do two guys batting .300 get stuck with two absolute zeroes in front of them? Put the zeroes at 8 and 9. Or at least at 7 and 8. I think you cause more damage stringing out the garbage in your lineup than throwing it all together.

Miggy with a monster game last night, it's a shame he didn't get a W for his effort.

It was good to see ESPN give him some love, man is unreal

Great read, really makes you appreciate what makes Miggy Miggy. The raw power for that line drive home run still boggles my mind. The second best thing has to be his HR chart, basically saying he can send any pitch anywhere past the fence, the man is a monster.

And lo and behold...someone heard me. Avila is now in the 8th spot with whatever other garbage-hitting platoon player at 7th.

It's not realistic to think that Miggy can keep up this pace but if he does...good lord. He's on pace for 44 HR's (certainly achievable) and 180 RBI's (not likely). A second in a row, history-setting triple crown would be awesome.

Speaking of keeping the streak going, Sanchez is straight beastin'

He's looking like a hell of a bargain right now, and I was a bit worried about signing him

Tigers need to play Pena, bench Avila, and stop playing Don Kelly. Aside from the bullpen troubles the Tigers keep running out too many sub-.200 hitters.

Nice sweep of the Tribe, boy have they fallen off a cliff.

In other news, during the Sox Rays game, the announcers were absolutely gushing over Miggy. Said that even Albert P never had a stretch like Miggy is having right now. Said Albert had a better 10 year stretch, but his highest peak wasn't at the level Miggy is at now.

Kinda nice seeing the Tigers get some love when two east coast teams are playing.

And another disgusting road series against the Royals. Against a pitching staff like KC has, the Tigers' sub-.200 hitters become zeroes, i.e. automatic outs. Papa Grande needs to be Papa Gone Day. I have no problem with the experiment but it's clear that it won't work. When you have a 2-0 lead, 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, and an 0-2 count, there is no way ever, EVER EVER EVER that you should give up a home run. Not on an 0-2 count. EVER.

Valverde is terrible...as is our bullpen. We need major help there

Well, I inadvertently got my wish with Avila going on the disabled list. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Pena, make the most of it.

And it's time to move Martinez down in the order. He's not moving off that .230 average and has become a double play machine when men are on base.

I would think that after the game today Valverde is done. There's no purpose in continuing with him further.

Are we going to make a move for a shortstop? With Jhonny Peralta being a part of the Biogenesis mess, the hammer should come down sooner rather than later. Although I heard that he wasn't necessarily doping, just taking an unscrambling agent to sort out his first name.

I think we do need insurance at the position. Not really sure who all would be available at a price we would be willing to pay.

I'd rather see us look for a longer term solution than just a 1-2 year rental to cover our butts. Granted he was an all-star, but his lack of range bothers we, especially with Cabby and Fielder on the corners.
