Angels Trade Deadline Rumors

Post#1 » by TyCobb » Tue Jul 20, 2010 9:48 pm

It's that time of year again. Let's start it off with:

Mark Saxon wrote:According to a major league source, Reagins has focused his pursuit on Kansas City Royals third baseman Alberto Callaspo, a former Angel farmhand.

The Angels are believed to have offered pitcher Sean O'Sullivan and another "fringe prospect," in exchange for Callaspo, but the Royals passed on the deal. Callaspo, 27, is batting .276 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs and has played third and second base for the Royals.

Meh. Callaspo is like a injury-prone free version of Angels utility player Maicer Izturis.

Tim Dierkes of MLBTR.com wrote:Jorge Cantu and Adam LaRoche are among the names the Angels have discussed, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Those veteran rentals could help the Halos at first base, but changing leagues is said to be a big factor for the Angels. Alberto Callaspo wouldn't be making the change; Rosenthal says the Royals infielder is on the Angels' short list. Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles first reported that target yesterday afternoon.

Regarding the first base situation, the Angels are said to prefer a rental player since Kendry Morales will be back next year. Aside from Cantu and LaRoche, the market features Lance Berkman, Derrek Lee, Xavier Nady, Lyle Overbay, and others. Despite the name value, keep in mind that many of these first basemen are having lackluster seasons.

I'd love to get Derrek Lee from the Cubs out of those names. Or Berkman.

Yeah, I've been a Brandon Wood supporter for years, but I've pretty much given up on the guy. He's 25 years old and still acts like he hasn't played a level above Pony.

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star is reporting (via Twitter) that infielder Alberto Callaspo has been dealt from the Royals to the Angels in exchange for right-hander Sean O'Sullivan and minor league left-hander Will Smith.

We gave up nothing, but what we got in return isn't a lineup changer either. I don't mind this trade at all. It's better than seeing Wood and Fransden everyday in the lineup.

Angels trade Joe Saunders, Rafael Rodriguez, Patrick Corbin, and PTBNL to Arizona for Dan Haren.

Reagins needs to get extended. Now.

Your welcome unless that PTBNL is Trout.

Yeah, that guy is untouchable, so I'm not worried at all.

The Arizona Republic is reporting that the player to be named in the trade that brought ace Dan Haren to the Angels on Sunday is Tyler Skaggs, a 19-year-old left-hander who is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the Angels' farm system.

Never heard of him but appparently he's a projected 2-4 starter. Cash dump like whoooaaa.

We won't know for a few years how this turns out for AZ. Danny is not the pitcher he once was, he actually leads the NL in hits and HR's allowed. Still a must-do trade for LA their rotation will be solid next season.
