^ do we still like Gavin Lux as our own prospect? I just don't see this kid ever donning the dodger blue. Seager at SS, rumors of us moving in on Machado ( to Ranma's delight), Ronny Brito is still only 19, **** is a very serviceable back up if he never cracks the regular lineup as everyday 2nd base. even Errol Robinson as well as young Brito is killing it defensively over our 1st rounder from the cheese state.

so... we gave up a 22 year old power hitter with 80/80 in power (did not know that, however) with a career batting average of .283 with .847 career OPS for a 27 year old pitcher who has shown no ability to control his stuff for the last 10 years?
looking at Ariel Hernandez's minor league stats, I am perplexed to no end why we made this deal.

Looks like Yusnial Diaz is off to a great start this year.
Looks like Yadier Alvarez might end up being a bust.

Gavin Lux's numbers this year in High A ball are pretty good.
8 homers in 203 ABs. .320/.403 15 doubles. 3 triples.
Still having an errors problem at SS which last year seemed to be on throwing the ball from Short to 1st.
I know others hate the pick on this forum and I've seen heads tweet that they don't like it but I am intrigued by this kid and his development, so I try to keep up with how he is doing. This is about GAVIN, not any other of Gasparino's picks and protecting Gasparino. I am intrigued by Gavin only in this particular regard.

It's funny that you mention Lux as I was actually thinking about him with respect to our draft and Gasparino earlier this morning. I'm trying to respond to your post with regards to my initial reaction to the draft, but have been jumping around between drafts for other sports and MLB's in an effort to collect and post information.
With regards to Gavin Lux, specifically, I liked him as a prospect as a developing project in a vacuum. I don't think he's going to be worthwhile as a SS so 2B is where I project him to eventually be now. I truly hope he does put things together and it's encouraging that he's showing signs of sustained progress but I'll be impressed if he can carry that over to the higher levels with consistency given the slow and stunted start to his development.

I think 2B is where he will end up as well but, admittedly, I am pulling for this kid to get his mechanics together to make it at SS.
I'm concerned that Jeren Kendall isn't making the strides at the plate that he needs in order to reach his potential.
His slash line is nothing to write home about and the Ks don't seem to be coming down.

I dunno. I don't even think he can make it in dodger blue as a 2B.

we've worked hard to get under the damn Lux Tax, no way we blow it all up for a rental, even if that is Manny Machado unless we plan to resign him and keep him, which instantly will push us over the threshold for Lux Tax Permanently, unless of course we let Kershaw go after this season.
so essentially, it comes down to working around the roster to get under the lux tax and be able to keep Kershaw or Manny? and frankly, there is no guarantee Manny would even sign an extension. he will want to test the free agency.
on the other hand, Thor is interesting, but his injury history makes it hard to swallow losing top prospects. I guess it depends on the price. I would trade for Thor if the deal is either built around Buehler or Verdugo, but not both. Walker+Lux+Will Smith or Verdugo+Santana+Lux.
