Braves Awaiting Drop of the Hammer

Kevin Maitan and Abrahan Gutierrez could both be available in the aftermath of the sanctions imposed on the Braves for their international signing violations. Maitan would be a no-brainer but Gutierrez's standing has fallen a bit where rumored Dodgers' target Antonio Cabello has now likely surpassed him as a catching prospect. However, we'd have to wait until July 2, 2018 to be able to offer a competitive bid for the services of Maitan (and Cabello, for that matter) since the Dodgers will be restricted to $300,000 each until then. Gutierrez should come cheaper but will probably still command more than what the Dodgers are currently able to offer.

As of right now, the Yankees, Rangers and now Twins have about $3.5 million apiece to sign such prospects, including Shohei Ohtani, during the current signing period. Minnesota just recouped their spending power due to voiding the deal of SS prospect Jelfry Marte (3rd overall in 2017 international prospects rankings) for failing his physical because of questionable vision. I'm curious whether Marte's vision could be fixed with corrective lenses or it's a degenerative condition. Maybe the Twins wanted an excuse to free up immediate spending money for another target. Hopefully, Maitan and Gutierrez will be advised to wait as Cabello already seems to be playing the waiting game.

Not the ideal place to start if you are taking a GM job.

These gigs are strict liability and typically, you don't get excuses unless you're Doc Rivers. Really makes me wonder what AA saw in this franchise. I'd hate to take a GM gig and on my first week be stripped of a prospect and picks - the two easiest ways I see of improving my club.

Was not aware of their beef.

Unlike us....the Yankees gave Didi some time to rest his body after the season and immediately got him TJS. He will miss a lot of next season but my guess is he'll be around for any postseason run.

They're all yours, go get them!

I'll definitely be pulling for you guys if ya'll get past the Brewers. I know that loss last year was heartbreaking, this year it's your turn.

Screw the Sawx.
