2017-18 OFF-SEASON

Post#441 » by Quake Griffin » Tue Jan 16, 2018 5:28 pm

The Dodgers won 104 games and made a World Series. They aren’t going to make panic moves like the Giants for two 30 year old players. More importantly, the Dodgers are good in every phase of the game. They can wait for the right deal and be much more selective than a team like the Giants.

The Giants are not good in all phases of the game....SP sucks, their bullpen sucks and their closer just had surgery. Posey’s power has been down for 2 seasons and there’s NO GUARANTEE Bum is going to make it back to his normal self.

We have all winter up until the trade deadline to make deals. There’s literally no need to win the winter...there’s no rush.

The Phillies win in 08 with Hamels and Blanton.
The Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt, Cliff Lee? No rings. So I’m not easily moved by the Astros getting Cole.

P.S. I wanted Morrow back. That annoyed me.

I have no idea how reliable this is. I have not seen this anywhere else and that makes me think it’s not reliable. I’m sure one of the main guys would have picked it up.

And if we do....
Meh...
Not big on Jake Arrieta...def not big on giving him the last deal of his career.

god, I hope not. we don't need a guy in his 30s who's declining in a hurry, and his stuff was junk to begin with. Jake can get paid elsewhere. if it has to be between Jake Arrieta and Yu Darvish, I would take Yu.

but really, shouldn't sign either one to a long term. they are both going to be poisonous contracts on both very flawed pitchers. if Jake does not mind a say, 3 year deal at most, yeah sure, why not. but that's not what they are seeking.

Brian Sabean is turning into the late Al Davis.

when you need to rebuild, you need to break up the current team first, but they are keep reloading. but unlike football, baseball contracts are guaranteed, and their roster is looking older with every move.

Giants Albatross contract list

Posey at 30 yrs old, on 8 year, 159 million contract, will be a free agent in 2023 ( he will be 35)
Cueto at 31, on 6 year, 130 million contract that runs out in 2023 ( will be 36)
Longoria at 32, on 6 year, 100 million, FA in 2024 ( will be 38 )
Shark at 32, on 5 year, 90 million until 2021 ( he will be 35)
Meloncon at 32, on 4 year, 62 million until 2021 ( he will also be 35)

on that list, only Posey is worth it but as a catcher, his knees will need time at 1B, but so will Evan Longoria as he ages too, will need time on first. their contracts overlap their expected move over to 1B. I have no clue of what and why these moves that barely move the needle, were made.

only short term large deals are

Hunter Pence at 34, his deal will run out after 2019. 18 million per season.
Captain Mc at 31, also runs out in 2019, is at very handsome 8.5 million per season.

I understand that SF is a big market, but no where near the Dodgers fanbase and $$$. with no farm to speak of, and minimal replacement value players near the majors, they are gonna be in a world of hurt in a hurry. if they reward Pence with his last contract, they will prove to be the honorary graduates from the school of Al Davis' sport mismanagement.

The longer Lorenzo Cain sits, the more I think he can be had at the right type of deal btw.

Neddy discussed this earlier.

He checks a lot of boxes for us and makes us more flexible if we put him in LF with that bat.

2 years with a team option for a 3rd?

I really like our lineup with him in it. Plus he’s good on the basepaths.

all right handed lineup they are going for? when Posey plays 1B, their only lefty bats will be their middle infield.

Pence -R
Jackson-R
Captain Mc-R
Posey-R
Longoria-R
Hundley-R

Posey at the C and Belt comes up to play 1B, giving the Gnats whopping 3 lefties in the lineup and only Crawford and Panik are most likely to play majority of the games, taking each about 500 at bats.

we are not the only team they have to play, but they sure are building their team trying to beat our lefty heavy rotation.

The Brewers get Christian Yelich for Lewis Brinson, Isan Diaz and two others.

Brinson was their top prospect and a top 10 guy.

I was interested in Yelich but that price was a little steep for me.

Brewers... what can I say.

maybe they'll have that one magical season like KC did a few years ago. I am looking forward to see what Thames can do to improve on last season tho. love that guy.

BTW, now they also signed Cain, what will the Brewers do with Braun? they have Domingo Santana who's had a better season than Ryan, I smell a cheap salary dump coming from Wisconsin.

Unbelievable that they would give Cain 5 years.

These dumb dumb franchises always shoot themselves in the foot.

And people want Verdugo traded.
How can you not have a LF and trade a person who is possibly the best LF in our entire org?

FOH with this crap.
Fatt Kemp in LF is going backwards. We are the GD Dodgers. We can do better than this, even if we are cutting costs.

We can do better than Chase Utley sucking up a roster spot as well.

He’s spent 2.5 seasons here. If his work ethic and professionalism hasn’t rubbed off on players yet, then it wasn’t a thing in the 1st place.

A role in our org that isn’t playing is fine. If not, enjoy your bay area home and life with your wife.
