I guess DM is saying that Weeks will remain in the leadoff spot. Macha better start to like stealing bases or we will just be wasting 1/3 of our lineup.

My ideal 2010 Milwaukee Brewers:

2B Rickie Weeks
SS Alcides Escobar
LF Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
3B Casey McGehee
RF Mat Gamel
CF Carlos Gomez
C Mike Rivera

INF Felipe Lopez
INF Craig Counsell
OF free agent
OF free agent
C Matt Lucroy

SP Yovani Gallardo
SP Justin Duchscherer
SP Manny Parra
SP Mark Mulder
SP Dave Bush

RP Chris Narveson
RP Carlos Villanueva
RP Mitch Stetter

Not saying it is a great team by any stretch, but I think we will still be too tied down with Hall and Suppan's contracts to do anything real big. What would you like to see, twirl?

I would have to disagree twirl and say that team would win more than 70 games. The bullpen is solid as long as it isn't over-used (which is asking a lot, I know). I would rather take a chance on guys like Mulder than be tied down with a guy like Washburn.

I think the chances that Duchscherer and Mulder combine to pitch less than 200 innings is better than the chance that they both pitch 125 each and I just don't like Duchscherer, soft tossers FTL.

Whatever happens I just don't want to see Looper or especially Suppan start a game for this team next season.

We will have to trade Gamel to get any promising pitching, but we are screwed if McGehee turns out to be a one-year wonder and I don't think Hart will ever be good again.

I beg to differ. That wouldn't be a bad roster, and is likely what we'd be looking at...we take a chance on two oft-injured starters who have big-game potential, and count on a batting order with a bunch of potential.

I mean, if Weeks continues to improve (who knows?)...
Gamel shows some production (couldn't be much worse than Hart)
Escobar plays well (couldn't be much worse than Hardy)
Rivera steps in and performs (is definitively better than Kendall)
Gomez is solid (not great, not bad, just solid)
And Duchscherer and Mulder pitch decently and stay healthy (couldn't be much worse than our rotation last year)...

Then, we'll finish with more than the 80 wins we had last year. It's a lot of ifs, but I think Gamel, Escobar, and Rivera will almost assuredly be better than the people who were in their positions last year, and the same can probably be said for Duchscherer and Mulder. Weeks showed a lot before he got hurt...maybe he can continue his strides this season. I mean, when you look at that roster top-to-bottom, can you say it's really that much worse than last year's team?

I just don't see it. Mulder is done. He's Suppan if he ever makes it back to the majors. Gomez is just bad. Terrible plate discipline. Once again, I think Duchscherer's career year was a huge fluke.

I think that's 70 wins and if that's the team Melvin plans on putting out there, you might as well trade Prince at his peak value.

Okay trade but would have preferred a lefty bat or switch, especially if we're not going to retain Gamel.

Like the range and like giving him a chance to bust out until Cain comes up.

Just don't know what was available though via trade.

I like this deal. It frees up PT for Escobar, we get a cheaper version of Cameron and younger in the process. It's not like I don't see where you guys are coming from but are acting like he is a washed up hasbin. He's only 24 and he has been a good prospect, he has potential. He's not a great hitter right now but neither was Hardy or Cameron.

he's not a cheaper version of Cameron. he has zero power, and his defensive abilities are very suspect despite his speed. he's a cheaper version of melky cabrera. we could have freed up playing time for escobar without trading hardy. despite all his speed and stolen base ability, melvin does not see him as a lead-off batter, but rather as more of a 7-8 hitter. In other words, he's not going to use his speed to steal many bases. gomez has never really been a good prospect. he was just a super hyped mets prospect just like Milledge.

the three amigos - Alexander, Gomez and Haislip.
Changes are NOT forthcoming.
