Re: Brewers/Cubs Series
Stearns was reported to be trying to get Adames for "a long time."
We'll still miss Rasmussen and Feyereisen, but it was the perfect storm. Waited it out for the Rays to basically need to call up Wander or Brujan so Adames is up there blocking them. I'm sure the Rays and some of the rest of the league were probably aware how good Adames was outside of the Trop, but the Rays are cheap and aren't going to pay Adames arbitration to be a utility guy or something and it was just never going to work there.
Not many teams league-wide are looking for a SS midseason. Good teams usually already have their guy, bad teams aren't interested in buying.
Boom. We get an All-Star shortstop in arbitration for almost 4 seasons for something that may look like a small return very soon, even if Rasmussen pops.

It’s early obviously, but Adames seems to have that “it” that rises his own and others levels of play around him

Feyereisen already has 4 wins 3 saves and a sub 1 ERA for Tampa Bay. Getting two good relievers mid season is never going to come cheap. Both have the potential to be lights out. I don't know how that qualifies as a small return for the Rays. They could probably flip Feyereisen alone at the deadline for a pretty good package.

He also walks a ton of guys and is a journy man 28 year old. The real return there was Rasmussen but I’d still take Adames

Always sucks to lose an elite bullpen arm but I don't think even the best reliever compares to having a stud 2-way shortstop.

I don't want to get too high on this team, but they may just be good. If one of either Cain or JBJ can stay healthy and actually produce, plus Perdomo figures it out at the major league level, they may not even have to add much ... provided everyone continues producing as they have over the last two weeks.
