Looks like Dodgers are making Mookie Betts the starting SS, interesting.

Yea, uh, "massive theft" and "paying off a friend's debt"...not the same thing!

It's going to be interesting because no matter what the scenario, these stories suggest they're going with mean Ohtani has violated the law/his translator has violated the law/he has violated the CBA.

If it's the most "benign" case where he was helping out a friend a little bit and got swindled, the MLB may be able to sweep that mostly under the rug while his translator becomes a fall guy or is in big trouble for theft. He is still making the payments which is technically against the law, though. If it's anything else, this may get interesting.

I'm gonna be honest...I've gotten real sick of Ohtani. Mostly to not his fault, but maybe some to his, too.

I wish the Brewers had given Wilken a chance to win a spot on the big team out of camp. I think he could have done it.

Having given it a few days, am I the only one here who completely believes Ohtani?

I was listening to skeptical podcasters today ("How could he not know about $4.5 million missing?!") and all I could think of is if I were in a foreign country, couldn't speak the language, obviously wasn't familiar with something like exchange rates, and I was reliant on one guy to be honest and help me out with translations...do you know how completely screwed I'd be if this guy decided he was going to take advantage of me?

Ohtani is so rich he could afford to tell the Dodgers they only have to pay him 3% of his contract over the next ten years because he makes so much off the field. I'd be fuc*ed if someone who close to me and was fluent in a language I wasn't wanted to steal some cash on the side.

I don't know if I fully believe him but I definitely believe someone that rich might not have a good handle on his finances. We see athletes get taken advantage of financially by people around them all the time.

I was listening to an interview with Tim Kurkjian this morning. He gave some insight into the role interpreters have in MLB, and he basically said they had the power of attorney. They essentially handle everything for foreign players, including things like opening bank accounts.

Lol...this is hilarious the loophole they're tapping.

Backloading or deferring a little bit of money is nothing new, but the Dodgers must really think this will be pocket change to them 5+ years from now.

Dodgers get almost $300 million more EACH YEAR in local TV money than the Brewers.
