The salary dump was marginal given he has like 1/3 of a season at $4 million, give or take, but what the hell, man. I assumed part of this deal was that he liked Lamet's potential coming back.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Immediately DFA'ing one of the major league pieces in a trade for someone of Hader's caliber is an embarrassing look for Stearns and the Brewers. No way to spin that one.

I dont get this trade at all unless they really feel Hader is truly done all of a sudden

They either planned really poorly or didn't want Lamet to begin with and only took his salary to get the deal done. I'm assuming it's the latter.

They are doing everything they can to gaslight a segment of the fanbase.

I say let it shakeout a bit.

Ron Swanson wrote:This does seem like the most realistic way to compete for a team in the Brewers' current position, aka load up on bullpen arms and hope the offense can get hot and produce by committee when September and October roll around. Just seems like the life of a small market feeder team in the MLB and feels like you can't invest too heavily in position players because of the volatility of hitting averages.

Idk, it's really tough for me to fault the approach given the results of the last 4 years. But it's certainly frustrating when you basically have to concede "not being able to compete with the big boys" in a professional sports league. But then again, that's probably why I'm mostly a casual baseball observer anyways. The illusion of "parity".
Very well said. For all the **** that's wrong with the NFL one thing they get right is the hard cap and revenue sharing that evens the playing field. It's tough to be too invested in MLB when the very best I can hope with the brewers is a punchers chance every year. And even if they had a crazy run of young talent and actually were the favorites some year they would lose the most of those guys to the rich teams in FA.

Or they would give their star a huge contact and then have that guy forget how to hit or get popped for PEDs :(

I don’t understand releasing Lamet? Why trade for him in the first place? Why help another contending team dump salary? I understand if we were losing this year, but helping another team win when you’re also trying to win is foolish.

Couple thoughts come to mind; maybe his salary was mostly paid for? Or someone else that we coveted more became available? Or someone that we didn't think was going to be ready to come back healthy, is ready to come back.

I wouldn't overthink it all that much, I am guessing there are details we just haven't gotten that paint more of a picture

It must be like an NBA trade, where the Brewers took on Lamet as a negative asset in order to get Gasser and Ruiz.

They said they never made calls to trade Hader but took calls, and this was a package they couldn't refuse basically. It makes me think that either a) teams (incl the Brewers and Padres, at least) see Gasser and Ruiz as much much much better than their rankings or b) they should have made some of those calls for better offers, because this seems like an unimpressive return for arguably the best RP in the league.

Once they come to the point where they’re going to trade him, why not make a couple calls? It seems derelict not to.

And to the DL goes Narvaez. Stearns just got the recall failed alert on the email to the league DFAing Severino.

I view the Hader trade similar to the Love draft pick. I understand the logic of it, I question the timing, and it's the type where if you're proven wrong the GM will get some deserved criticism.

I don't know enough about the prospects to have much of an opinion in that regard. Hope they turn out to be good.

Sure sounds like the Brewers were at least somewhat involved with Soto talks.
