I mean the umps & league clearly don't agree that it was a dirty play considering the play was reviewed and it was determined the play was a legal. I'll give you questionable but by no means would I say it's clearly dirty.

We watch sports, we all know refs reviewing and declaring something means nothing. Just watch from an objective standpoint and be the judge, then the answer becomes clear

I mean they wrote a literal rule to take out so called "dirty slides" and this apparently didn't meet that criteria. Even the Mets manager after the game said it was a legal slide

Putting aside whether that violated the rule itself, it definitely looked bad on the replay. Not sure it was intentional on Hoskins's part as it just looked like an awkward slide from a guy who hasn't had many, if any, opportunities to slide since 2022. But still, I can see why McNeil would take issue with it, though he put himself in that situation by planting in the direct path of Hoskins's slide.

Hoskins clearly steered his feet left of the base on purpose so that he could easily slide past the base and into McNeil. His entire body weight went into McNeil's lower leg and it was practically an ankle tackle. Apparently he was close enough to the bag to make it legal by the letter of the law, but it's still an unnecessarily unsafe play and if it's legal, then they need to change the rule. If you're clearly sliding to hit a defender instead of trying to slide into the base, I think that should be a penalty regardless of whether you're "close enough" to the bag to make an insincere argument that it was a natural slide. It reminds me of Marcus Smart running under an offensive player just as he leaps towards the basket and trying to draw a charge. Sure, sometimes it kind of looks like he's almost there in the nick of time, but that just becomes an excuse for what is clearly a reckless play.

However, as with Marcus Smart under-cuts, the issue is with the rule and the way it is officiated, and you can't really get mad at the player for trying to game the rule if it works.

Chourio all the way down to the 9 hole is disappointing. But overall that looks like a real nice lineup

I wonder if anyone's ever gone from batting leadoff in their debut straight to the bottom of the order the next day?

I noticed that too. Usually, he's up to 96 minimum.

Is this the velo he had on his fastball in the spring too? Maybe I'm just misinformed but seeing 91 on the gun is not what I was expecting.
