Mauer Out with Bruised Heel

Post#1 » by Klomp » Sat May 1, 2010 9:57 pm

CLEVELAND -- Twins catcher Joe Mauer bruised his left heel while lunging into first base Friday night. He's not in the lineup tonight and is listed as day-to-day, but this could be a touchy injury.

The Twins have Wilson Ramos on his way from Class AAA Rochester. They will have a roster move after tonight's game. Tonight's starter, Jeff Manship, might be sent back to Rochester to make room for Ramos.

The Twins need Ramos because they are concerned about playing with one catcher. Drew Butera gets his fourth major league start behind the plate tonight, and if he gets hurt, the Twins would be scrambling for an emergency catcher.

There is no telling how long Mauer will be out, but the only thing he can do is ice and rest. The Twins won't want to rush him back because this is an injury that can linger.

Manager Ron Gardenhire did say that Mauer was available to pinch hit tonight, but they would only turn to him to catch in an extreme emergency.

Ramos steps in today and goes 4-5. As a sidenote, I would not like to meet Ramos in a dark alley. He's a mean looking dude.

Ramos has been impressive so far. Maybe impressive enough to help get us a serious starting pitcher to join Liriano at the top of the rotation before the playoffs?

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

That's an interesting question. Would you trade Ramos for someone like Cliff Lee who's a free agent at the end of the year?

I'd probably trade for Lee. A 2nd top level starter would be huge in the postseason. And they might even re-sign a Lee, since they've got the Target bucks now.
