Baltimore Orioles (46-45) @ New York (50-41): How real are the Yanks?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Tue Jul 21, 2015 9:50 pm

Going into this season, there was a lot, I mean A LOT of trepidation with this NY Yankees team sans Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, Posada, O'Neill, Martinez, Brosius, Cone, Matsui, and other familiar faces over the last 15-19 yrs. The questions were legit: How will Pineda, Tanaka, and CC hold up? Can the Yanks drive in runs? How healthy are Tex's wrists, A-Rod's hips? Can the free agent spending on Ellsbury, McCann, and Beltran get comfortable in year 2?

Turns out...this strange makeshift team of free agent signings is molding into place.

The Yanks offense has a lethal 1-2-3 with Gardner where he belongs, Ellsbury is finally comfortable in the #2 slot, and A-rod has been advancing the runner, putting up decent numbers. Most importantly the Yankees have #2, #7, and #17 batter in AL RBIs. Something this team was atrocious in last 4-5 seasons.

The pitching has been bolstered by the return of Ivan Nova, Tanaka. The rotation of Pineda, Tanaka, Eovaldi, Nova, Sabbathia has been a mixed bag of brilliance and "meh." What has been keeping the Yanks in games, the stellar bullpen. Betance and Miller have been filth.

Yanks are 1 game from the high water mark of 10 games over .500. Can THEY make more room between first and second?

It starts tonight!

Yanks win a tight one over the O's 3-2, giving them a little breathing room at 5 games. Tomorrow Champagne Supernova (1-3) gives it a go.

Another 1 run win for the Pin stripes! Tex and A-Rod go yard. The Yanks have a 5 game lead over second place Toronto Blue Jays.

Tomorrow Tanaka takes the mound in hopes of giving the Yankees a sweep over the O's.

Yanks sweep the O's! 12 games over .500! 6 game lead over second place Toronto! Tanaka wins his 7th!

Hitting the road on their next stop Minnesota!

I asked this question a lot myself. Last night's comeback over the Twins has finally settled this in my mind.
