Geez. We all but need a sweep here to infuse some kind of energy into this team and the fanbase now. 3 out of 4 at the least.

Oakland's offense isn't good, but damn do they have a good, young rotation. I expect we will be in all four games and it should be a good series to watch. Jeff Sullivan wrote an interesting article on McCarthy...I'm curious to see if his GB% holds up tonight. There's no reason it shouldn't in SafeCo against a team currently lacking a power threat, really.

So much for Felix seeming distracted...he's mowing the A's down tonight.

Dominant performance from Felix tonight. He's thrown 17 scoreless innings against the A's this season. Whew.
But holy hell; That homeplate umpire was horendously bad. He was giving McCarthy EVERYTHING. Pitches 6+ inches off the plate were strikes routinely. Dude has good stuff and pitched well, but he got helped a lot. But Mariners pitchers got squeezed, especially Felix in that 8th inning.
Oh, and being Jamey Wright's #1 fan on this forum, I was thrilled to see him in there in a big situation. He was money, ofcourse.

He's the master of the one pitch appearance.

I've been meaning to ask about Wright. He's awesome, and the rest of our bullpen is not. Why is he not used... more?

Pineda, awesome.
Vargas... not as much. It seems like we either get a really good Vargas, or a really, really bad Vargas. Never a "well, he gave up 4 runs in 6 innings, but kinda kept us in it..." Vargas.
Oak scored 9 runs and left 15 guys on base. This one coulda been even uglier.

One question stymies me. How did Chone Figgens turn into such a useless piece of garbage as a hitter from almost the moment he arrived here? He's turned into our new Carlos Silva in his own way. As if we didn't have enough problems to deal with already.

As a hitter AND defender. I remember when Geoff Baker was complaining last year about how moving Figgins from 3B to 2B might be why his offense was a problem. Well...now he's at third, he still can't hit, and he can't handle either a line drive or a groundball that comes his way.
I knew the Silva contract was going to be a bad one but I thought Chone had a chance to be successful. So much for that thought...
I know there was that rumor that Chone scuttled a potential trade [to Oakland] in the offseason, but I'd think the amount of booing he recieves [by all 10k fans that even go to games now] might make his life so miserable that he'd welcome a change of scenery too.

Re: Oakland (9-9) @ Seattle (6-13)
Doug Fister has had one ugly start in KC, but has been downright decent this year.
I was hoping we could go into this year and strive for a 2009-esqu success story, but I forgot how much pop that team had. Branyan (31), Lopez (25), Griff (19), Guti (18), heck guys like Ichiro had 11, Johjima had 9 in 71 games. Will anyone on this team hit 12? 15? Not unless Smoak gets going, IMO.
