This drove me nuts during the football season. Why do I feel more competent to make the call just sitting there watching it on my TV than these f*cking trained experts.?

No idea. I'd say it might be due to different umpire crews, but aren't these calls being reviewed back in NYC by the same group each time? I can't blame the fans or Ron Washington for being royally pissed off about that process. As a fan if I sat through that I'd be furious.

The umpire/referee should just have a headset, then someone watching the play should tell him in no less than a twenty seconds and a few looks what it is. If they can't, then it's inconclusive.

The technology is there. It's not that. It's f*cking idiocy. I just can't figure out what takes so long in football and now in baseball. Put me in charge. I'll get the whole system working in a few week's time.

well first they have to call NY then the people in NY have to use direct tv to subscribe to the mlb game of choice. after that they watch the broadcast and then make the call. so it does take 20 seconds with an extra 4 minutes of dialing and subscribing. and would be worse if this was being handled by time warner oh wait it is

At least I sort of understand the delay in football. It's harder to get the camera where it needs to be, there's more bodies in the way, there's a clock to reset, yardage to measure out, etc. But baseball? I don't know.

Damn fine start by Elias. I thought Erasmo would run away with his spot in the rotation and Elias would really struggle, but the reverse been true.

not sure you can conceivably ask for more out of elias after three starts. after maurer last year i just wasn't sure if the jump from jackson to the majors was a reasonable one to ask of a young starting pitcher, but this kid has been a monster.

If Ramirez doesn't figure it out in the next few starts, he might be the one out of the rotation when everyone gets healthy.

wonder if he could be a long reliever. with all the young arms having a couple of guys who can eat 3-5 innings would be ideal so we don't put to much stress on the young arms

I have an irrational hate for Beavan. Games like this are why....he gets the ball up, gives up 2 HR [damn near three] in one inning, and gets removed after four innings so he can't do anymore damage.

On the bright side, the offense is pure death tonight so we could've trotted any pitcher out there tonight and he'd probably get stuck with a loss.

I might as well get used to Beavan because with Walker suddenly have shoulder issues again you know his timetable will be pushed back even in a best case scenario. That's distressing...the stories we are hearing about Walker are eerily similar to what Hultzen dealt with last year. Hultzen effectively lost three season [last year due to recurring injuries, this year due to surgery, and likely a year pitching in the minors to build up arm strength] and now I worry Walker will see the same.

Damn. Blake has been suffering from that shoulder tightness for 4 years now. He really needs to get that looked at.

Franklin gave Smoak a great opportunity. All he had to do was lift a fly ball and he blew it.
