Yeah, it really never made much sense for either side. Toronto's not contending so a sluggish Guti really does them no good, and Guti's still worth something to the Mariners, even if that 'worth' is all wrapped up in retapping that lost potential.

Toronto does have a few promising outfielders already tbh, so yeah maybe Guti's not the best fit.

For those who dont know, the A's beat the Yanks and are now above us. Of course we could send them right back down to the cellar if we beat Boston tonight, but if we can't hit Lackey, we ain't gonna hit jack against Beckett.

1-0 M's, top 7. Carp with a solo HR. 6/17 with 2 HRs and at least 1 hit in every game since he's been recalled.

Beavan's been dominant so far.

Beavan looks dominant although he's really walking a bit of a tightrope here. He's given up like 3 or 4 doubles and stranded some at third also, so the Houndini act's gonna run out sometime. Hopefully not today though.

Mike Carp looks like a differant hitter this time around. I like the way he's going the other way and he's jumping on fastballs early in the count.

Seeing a few green shoots like Carp and Beavan's strong outing so it's not a total loss.

I completely agree. But two seasons with a historically bad offense, and now we've had the worst losing streak in the history of the franchise? The Mariner were **** for the first 15-20 years of my life, mind you. Setting/tying the longest losing streak in the history of this particular franchise is remarkable. As bad as those teams in the late 70's/early 80's were [quick...name one good player on those teams...], we've just accomplished something they never did because we are completely terrible.

That's the type of thing that tends to get people fired. Regardless of how good the process may be or the limitations placed on him by the prior regime, a GM is still hired to put a winning product on the field that is watchable. And the product on the field now isn't worth paying a dollar to watch. Typically lousy franchises like the Royals and Pirates are kicking our butts right now.

We had another bases loaded, no outs situation last night in the 8th. Not a single run crossed the plate.

It was a sorry sight. The Red Sox pitching was mediocre enough to put 13 of our guys in scoring postion but somehow good enough to not let any of them score, in a great hitters park by the way.

And the losing streak is at 15. The offense has come around a little but now our pitching is falling apart. Pineda's on a skid, the bullpen is regressing...now we're off to New York and the streak looks like it will just keep continuing.

It's going to be depressing if they stand pat this week on any deals. I'm not for deals for the sake of making deals but they cant think this roster just automatically gets significantly better over time.

that would be nice, but i read somewhere he doesn't want to be a GM anymore. that he's happy where he's at and would only consider a role as team president. (cubs rumor)

That's 3 straight starts where Pineda got shelled, hope he's not starting to tire or something. Even the bullpen is falling apart. Laffey's ERA has went from 1.82 to 3 in his last 4 or 5 appearences.

Just great. Carp and Ackley and Ryan are raking right now and the others are getting better, but the pitching has fallen apart. No wonder we're losing like this. Next up the Yanks, we're gonna get shelled again, unless Vargas miraculously shuts them out or something.

I've heard that too, and at this point I'd welcome it. This organization needs as many smart people in it as possible.

I know that he didn't build those early 2000 teams by himself, but all I know, and hopefully the powers that be atop this franchise would be wise to remember, that the M's won 91, 116, 93, and 93 games during his 4 year stint here.

Sort of a disclaimer at the bottom that says 'there is nothing linking Pence to the Mariners'. I love the guy and would like to see him in right by the start of next season but he'd fit well in left for now.

As for what it would take to get a player of that caliber i would think you'd have to have some sort of deal including Vargas or Fister, a young hitter like Halman or Peguero and probably a minor league pitcher like Paxton, seems like a lot but they're desperate for offense.
