So its come to this

What were we, 2.5 out at the beginning of the month? Now we're 12.5 back, potentially 13.5 in a couple hours.

13 game losing streak. Fun facts: The ML record for ineptitude is 24 in a row, set by the Cleveland Spiders back in 1889. The modern era record? 23, set by the Phillies, in '61. If we fail to win a game on the remainder of this road trip (not exactly far fetched, given we have 2 left with Boston, and 3 with New York), our streak will be at 18. We then host Tampa for 3. I know it's baseball, and anyone can beat anyone, but I don't know. There's a very real chance we could be on a 21-gamer going into the Oakland series.

So, at the beginning of the month (only 22 days ago??) we were pondering who we could trade for to boost ourselves up for the stretch run. Now? It's time to bust out the only standings we need to worry about... the worst record in baseball, 2012 edition.

1. Astros 33-66
2. Cubs 40-60
3. Royals 40-58
4. O's 39-56
5. Padres 44-56
6. Mariners 43-55
6. A's 43-55
6. Dodgers 43-55

Now, we're playing some terrible baseball right now, don't get me wrong. But nobody is going to touch the Astros. They've got the #1 overall pick on lockdown.

So really, it looks like once again we're playing for the #2 overall pick. We're only 4.0 back of the Cubs, and this our schedule for the next 5 weeks:

2 @ Bos
3 @ NYY
3 Tampa
3 Oak
3 @ LAA
3 @ Tex
3 Boston
3 Toronto
3 @ Tampa
3 @ Cleveland

Heck, if Houston gets luke warm, who knows. We might actually catch them. That's brutal, and we can't hit or pitch! Not a great combo.
