Mariners to acquire Aaron Harang

Post#1 » by BayAreaMadSkill » Thu Apr 11, 2013 8:14 pm

The Colorado Rockies are set to trade Aaron Harang to the Seattle Mariners, according to a source.

Seattle has been looking to bolster their starting pitching.

The Rockies acquired Harang from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday for catcher Ramon Hernandez, then immediately designated him for assignment.

I immediately thought "Doesn't this guy suck?" and then I looked up his stats and saw he threw up a 3.6 ERA each of the past two seasons.

Why does nobody want him? Seems like a really solid pickup to me since our rotation sucks.

His ERA is a bit low compared to his FIP and xFIP numbers, and his K/BB rate took a dive last season. So there's a reason was freely available.

But would I trade a reliever of no consequence for Harang, DFA'd Loe, and push Beavan into a long relief role? Absolutely. If he can just provide a few competent starts until Erasmo Ramirez is healthy then I'm pleased.
