Look how much salary San Antonio took on to compete now... I think the Magic might do the same. I'll be crushed if we lose out on Gortat... we need him SO bad!
I don't know why some folks are worried about this. Even with Marc Cuban's money would he want to spend 5.8 mil on a guy who will play about 12 minutes a game behind the best player on your team? And unlike a swing player who could possibly play a couple positions so you could find some extra time for him, Gortat is a Center and can not really play other postitions. It would not be wise in any way for the Magic to sign Gortat at that money unless they could get playing time for him.
Besides if you remember a couple of years ago the Mavericks drafted the following guys for the Magic. So they can use this guy as a 12 minute a game backup for next to nothing as opposed to spending nearly 6 mil next year for a backup to your best player.
