Cardinals Call Up Stavinoha

Cardinals recalled outfielder Nick Stavinoha from Triple-A Memphis.
Stavinoha has been up and down all season and may never settle in as a major league outfielder. He returns to a .234/.242/.359 batting line.

Here he is again, with another chance to stick in the big leagues. He's got a good enough glove, it's the fact that he just can't seem to him major league breaking balls that keeps him from staying up in the majors. Hopefully he's worked on it and will be able to get some base hits this time up.

Ehh, he's strictly a replacement-level guy. Although these days, that is an upgrade on Duncan and Ankiel. Wow, have those two been unrelentingly horrible this year. They are killing us.

The Cardinals would improve by leaps and bounds if Glaus and DeRosa can both come back healthy and productive, and fill in the gaping craters in our lineup at third and left field respectively. Sadly, though, the odds of both of them coming back and being on their games seem to be pretty slim. LaRussa is going to have to keep trotting out some subset of Duncan/Ankiel/Thurston/Barden. It's almost enough to make me feel sorry for him.
