Looks like he's gonna miss his next start which was scheduled for Tuesday, because of soreness after he pitched then slept on it.

Here's today's report on Carpenter:

link

Sounds to me like it is anybody's guess as to how long he will be out, but that it will be more than just a couple of missed starts.

The article also has some info on Carpenter's temporary replacement, Randy Keisler.

He'll miss at least 3 more starts after the one tonight I think. I rather him miss as much time as he needs, we just can him a huge extension and we need to be very careful with him.

pshhh, we need hitting a lot more than pitching right now.

The only everyday player that has decided to hit this year is Duncan. Miles and Bennett have done really well in there reserve roles so far this year.

Kip Wells has been one of the best starters in the game this year. And Wainwright and Looper both have great ERA's. Let's hope all 3 of these guys keep it up and prove me wrong.

Another Chris Carpenter article, this one medical reportish:

I think it's all still a guessing game, but this is a fairly sobering article.

Well that's good to hear.

The Post-Dispatch Web site is also saying that Encarnacion is ready to play rehab games in the minors.

Our offense is really going to take off once Juan is back. :-?

The latest on Chris Carpenter:

link

Doesn't sound too encouraging to me, especially the part about the bone spurs and no change. I'm no doctor, but it sounds to me like the elbow could flare up again at any time unless the spurs are removed via surgery. The article says surgery would require 2-3 months of rehab, meaning Carp would miss at least half the season.

:(

Well I think it's obviously going to depend on his throwing next week. If it flares up, surgery, if not, back to the rotation. Worst case he has surgery and is back in 2 or 3 months in AAA for 1 or 2 starts, then back to the rotation.

On the optimistic side, if Mulder comes back strong at the break, assuming Carp has surgery and comes back strong. If we can just hang around, and actually start hitting the ball. We could once again become a very dangerous team during the 2nd half.

Carp
Mulder
Wells
Looper
Waino
Reyes :droop:

Of course, that's optimistically thinking assuming Carp has surgery, comes back to form. As well as Mulder coming back to form.

Oh, and Albert, Scott, and Jim, it's time to start bringing a bat to the plate and opening your eyes when it's your turn to bat.
