The Rays have just traded David Price to the Tigers in a 3 team deal.
The deal was:
The Rays sent: David Price
The Rays received: LHP Drew Smyly, 2B/SS Nick Franklin, SS Willy Adames
The Tigers sent: LHP Drew Smyly, SS Willy Adames, OF Austin Jackson
The Tigers received: David Price
The Mariners sent: 2B/SS Nick Franklin
The Mariners received: OF Austin Jackson
It's not a bad deal for any team involved IMO. I really like the fact that the Rays got a guy that will play this year in Smyly.

Re: Price Traded to the Tigers
Smyly is ok, sometimes he's been very good. The plus side is that the Rays will have five years of contract control over him should he continue to develop.
Franklin is from orlando, and is multi dimensional. Hits from both sides with some pop and can play other positions.
Don't know much about Adames, but he's detroits #3 prospect and is 18.
Time will tell how this works out as always, but the fact is is that Price would not be here after next year regardless.

I don't know much about Franklin or Adames, but, I like Smyly. Hopefully he can do well with us. I don't expect him to replace Price, just do well enough that it doesn't hurt us. I don't know where Franklin is going to play. He plays the same positions as Escobar, Zobrist, Forsythe, and Rodriguez.

Re: Price Traded to the Tigers
So far this trade has looked really good for us. Price got almost $20M in arbitration. There's no way the Rays would have afforded to field a decent team around that. Smyly was awesome with us last year, let's hope he continues that success. Adames kept doing great things as a top prospect after he was moved to our farm team. And Franklin hasn't done much yet with us, but will have his first full season test (and as a possible starter with Zobrist/Escobar gone) this year.

The Tigers will be hard pressed to resign Price after next season.
If Price pitches well and stays healthy he'll be looking at a $140 million deal, and will be 30 years old to boot.
