Rays pick up Zaun

Post#1 » by craig01 » Fri Aug 7, 2009 10:50 pm

The Rays picked up Greg Zaun off of waivers today.

I like the move as Navarro has been close to horrible both at the plate and behind the plate.

It seems like Zaun has been around forever. Nice back up for you - should hit around .250.

Fun fact: He is the Nephew of former major league catcher Rick Dempsey.

I didn't know that.

I was a long time O's season ticket holder back in the 80's.

Dempsey was a classic.

I'm pretty sure he was the catcher when the O's beat my white sox in 1983. I thought we were going all the way that year. Hoyt started us out good then Boddicker/Flannagin/Martinez completely shut us down. We went down hill after that series. I'll bet ripken & murrey were fun to watch back then.

He was.

The crucial play in the series was Dybzinski getting thrown out late in the final game.

Then, Tito Landrum hits a home run for the go ahead run in a nail biter.

Hoyt seemed like such a slob......good pitcher though.

That Sox team was good.

Our seats in Memorial Stadium were on the first row in the upper deck right on 1B.

Julio Cruz of the Sox used to play catch with fans in the upper deck during warm ups. That was really cool.

That series does not feel like it was that long ago I must be gettting old. The landrum HR really hurt, but your pitching really shut us down and of course the dibber had better days........

When Hoyt was pitching that well he looked pretty good from six rows back behind the plate. One of my friends had great season tickets back then so I got to see him pitch a few times.

I always like Julio - good stuff.
