Glad I didn't watch this one.

Looks like our top 3 this year will be:

1. Kikuchi
2. Gausman
3. Manoah

Bassitt already had some red flags, but if this is his velo now, that contract is going to be awful.

Yeah, if Bassitt is throwing 90-91 mph now, then there is real potential for disaster with him. At least Berrios and Kikuchi don't have issues with velo, so they might be easier to fix if they are in fact fixable, but if Bassitt is throwing 2020-21 Tanner Roark's fastball out there, then there won't be much the Jays can do. Hopefully it's just one start and his velocity starts creeping back to normal as the season goes on.

It better be or we are heading for disaster. Season comes down to Kikuchi with a beard.

Except for Robbie Ray that one year and Gausman, seems like all the older pitchers come here and just regress to **** tier players. Kikuchi, Ryu, Bassitt this game, and even back in 2015 with Dickey.

I wouldn't say Kikuchi regressed he was God awful after the all star game in 2021 and the M's benched him for most of September iirc.

Is Pearson stretched out? Or is Thomas Hatch/Mitch White our other options?

Zach Thompson is probably first up, followed by Bowden Francis. Mitch White and Drew Hutchison weren't healthy as of last week, I believe, otherwise they'd definitely be in consideration.

Pretty sure the ship has also sailed on Nate Pearson being a starter. He's a short reliever now, probably for good.

The Bassitt signing reminds me of the Tanner Roark signing

Bassitt's ERA the past 3 years is over a full run better than what Roark was doing in the year before we signed Roark.

I'm wondering how much of this has to do with the pitch clock changes and the elimination of the shft, but I'm also looking at the Yankees and the Rays and I see their pitching has been pretty damn impressive to start the season. But yeah that Bassitt outing was pretty painful to watch. Velocity being down is a concern, but hopefully he'll bounce back on his next start.

The Yankees and Rays also faced the Giants and Tigers who are both horrible teams so I wouldn't put too much stock in that. Bassitt does need to figure out this pitchcom stuff tho.

If the pitching struggles again this year, you have to fire Walker, right?

This guy has somehow survived a decade with the team, yet we've been a mediocre pitching team throughout his entire tenure.

Yeah, it's always possible with any player over the age of 32 (and some under it, hey Berrios) that they will suddenly turn into a lump of refuse overnight, but Bassitt has been a very good starting pitcher for years...there is no rational comparison between him and Roark based on past results.
