Varsho the only player in the lineup not to get on base or get a hit, while striking out twice. Catch was nice on one end, but his solid defense gets mitigated when he cannot produce at the plate consistently, aside from his occasional 2 Home Run game. A player still has to come to the plate 4 to 5 times a game, regardless of the solid catches he might make.

He almost won us the Yankees game with 2 homers till Schneider made an in game bet and sabotaged the game.

Hes hitting for power now at least. He’s not the main problem in regards to hitting it’s the guys ahead of him who are not living up to expectations.

Well said. I could not have said it better. This is a thread about the Varsho trade. When his lovers post his nice catches, I just have to point out that on one end he will make those fine defensive catches- on the other hand, him being a terrible hitter and striking out consistently on bad pitches mitigates his solid defense and nice catches.

Gurriel is second in the NL in RBI's and has an OPS of .831. Varsho had a very good two weeks hitting wise last year in April 2023, and people like you were mentioning what he is "pace on" for the 2023 season. Projections for the next 5 months mean very little.

Let's see where Varsho ends up in September, but you like to post clips of Varsho after each individual game he does well- but hesitate to mention him when he is terrible more times than not at the plate hitting around .200.

Lol you gotta be kidding me, dude. did you see this thread after every d-backs game in october? you guys wanted to make out with moreno through the TV after every seeing-eye single or cute little flare into shallow RF. liberally using the word "superstar", talking about how he was "carrying his team to the world series", all for a guy who has been nothing but average at best offensively in his MLB career thus far.

talking about gurriel still is a whole different story. i'd be surprised if there was a GM in this league that would prefer him over varsho at this point.

Don’t worry, I’m sure Moreno will hit it out of the infield at some point this season

He is still doing better than your Hero Fat Kirk, who has so far been more atrocious than Moreno (.192 BA, .507 OPS, with 0 Home Runs to match). The same Kirk who you called a Top 5 MLB

Catcher who has a much "powerful bat" than Moreno. You and your Altar Ego Sensi (I am thinking that is you posting also), have no reply when I bring up the awful numbers of Kirk hitting wise since the second half of 2022.

dabbling in the moreno power prop bets

moreno's first HR in 2024 - before or after July 15th
- probably the after on this one

over/under on Moreno HR's this season - 3.5
- yikes

Due to the fact that it is very likely "Randle McMurphy" and "Sensi" are the same guy posting on this forum, I am not sure who to reply to. If you read carefully, I mentioned the numbers of Kirk

since the second half of 2022 onward. Kirk had a very good first half of 2022 (All-Star appearance), but his numbers since the second half of 2022 up until now, have been mediocre to terrible. To call him a Top 5 Catcher overall in MLB, was laughable.

Power is something that is very hard to improve upon. You saw it with Austin Martin and you’re seeing it now with Moreno.

It was a great trade even if Varsho struggles at the plate. When he’s hitting well, he’s a high impact player.

You and your Secondary Account "Sensi" were saying that in April 2023, when Varsho was outstanding offensively for a couple of weeks. Varsho then fell off the next 5 months, ending the year with a .220 BA and OPS of .674.

If Varsho has discovered something new with his swing and can keep this up the rest of the year, it will be a different story and you can then say I was wrong about the trade. However, give credit to where it is due, Varsho has been terrific the last week. Hope he keeps it up, since this team can use his offense when the supposed "Top 5 Catcher Kirk" is struggling like he is.

Other teams trade top prospects and get Juan Soto type players. Maybe draw a comparison somewhere in between?

Varsho is having the best start to a season since Matt Chapman last season.

Just with maybe the best defense ever played by a Blue Jay position player and no choking with RISP.

Even a league average hitting Varsho is a 5 win player. That’s how good his defense is.

And just wait until they inevitably have to move him full time to CF later this season.
