Now we're using Swanson in a 1 run deficit with bases loaded and nobody out after letting Richards walk the bases loaded? Why not just let Swanson start the inning if he was gonna pitch today to keep it close?

I mean, what did he think as gonna happen putting richards out there again.

If you wanted Swanson to pitch in the 8th, he should have started the Inning instead of Richards. Foolish bullpen mismanagement by Schneider.

I'm not going to complain about the decision to come back with Richards (although that can be easily debated)

My issue is why were they not having Swanson warming up earlier (just before the inning started) - you knew there was a good chance that Richards was not going to be able to go 2 clean innings First sign of trouble, whether you want to argue that was after the first batter to get on or the second to get on, Richards had to be out.

No excuse for Swanson to not be ready earlier.

Insane decision, I've seen John pull Swanson after like 8-9 pitches. But Richard's gets 2 innings? Should've been pulled after the first runner got on. Then DEFINITELY after the second runner got on. But no we let Richards walk one more then we don't bring in Bass? If we're talking about saving our good arms. Impossible situation for Swanson tonight.

Schneider may have been calling the shots all along these past few years.

Yeup if you're using Swanson tonight he gets in first sign of trouble. I disagree but trying to save your best arm after a great inning from Richards is not the worst idea. But if you're serious about winning he's ready for the first runner, and worst case the 2nd runner. Letting him the bases loaded was insane. At that point let Bass pitch cause prime Marino isn't getting out of that with no runs scoring. Swanson didn't have his best stuff but he had 0 margin for error.

Worst managed game of the year for Schiender by far.

really concerned about Manoah now. he is thrown off by the pitch clock and pace it seems. not trying to be a debbie downer but he will probably be the least effective pitcher until he gets used to it by 2nd half of the season or worse, next season. his sliders are not working at all and his k% is trending down too.

Was listening to Steve Philips this morning and he said the pitch clock thing is just excuse making at this point whenever people bring it up because every pitcher in the majors also has to deal with it. And I agree with him. Something is completely off with Manoah this year and it's not the pitch clock. They need to figure it out fast before he becomes the Kikuchi of last year.

ya i would like to say its the pitch clock but overall he's been off for sure.

Why wouldn't/couldn't it be the pitch clock? Just because every pitcher has to deal with it doesn't mean that every pitcher is going to deal with it the same way. Some are going to struggle with it much more than others and Manoah (perhaps due to his huge weight/size) appears to be one of those guys.

Given that he was previously one of the league's slowest starting pitchers, the pace he has to pitch at now really is the best explanation for why his command and stuff is gone and why his delivery is a mess.

I know Gausman was at 100 pitches, but seeing the bullpen having to fill 3 innings in this tight a game gives me the heebie jeebies.
