Re: Around the MLB
signing a player who just failed a physical for that amount is...a choice? what are the odds the mets don't even get a third of that contract at value? it's a scott boras special. mets got like a 2 year window and then will be in payroll hell for perpetuity.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Mets are paying for something like 35 fWAR from now through the end of time. Correa, it's worth noting, hasn't been worth 35 fWAR in his career to date.
**** your asterisk.

And the Giants were willing to pay even more Is this just inflation or does the 35 fWAR break-even for the Mets contract already account for this offseason's seemingly high inflation?

That is a shockingly fast turn around time from being declined due to a physical and being signed to a mega-deal with a different team.

Re: Around the MLB
That is a pretty crazy turn of events and I find it hilarious he finally ends up in NY but not with the Yankees.
I assume he will be moving to 3B now? I know he will still be quite good there assuming he is healthy, but where he truly excels is with his defense at SS so this is an interesting move.
That left side if both he and Lindor are healthy is pretty nasty though.

We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

So people are thinking there actually was a medical issue, and that wasn’t just cover for the fact that he changed his mind to sign with the Mets?
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

35 fWAR is actually based on some expected inflation, up to $9m/fWAR average for his career. But yeah, it definitely feels like the FA price has increased, though the market is so weird that I really don't know whether this is something we can expect going forward. There are a finite number of teams willing to hand out these megadeals, and a finite number of megadeals they can rationally hand out, and their dance cards are booked through 2035 or something.

I assume it was the second best offer that had already been on the table. Seems like the Mets doctors didn’t care as much about whatever the issue was.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I'm just going with the assumption that Correa bailed on the Giants at the last minute. The medical story was concocted to either buy a little time to hopefully re-convince him to stay or most likely something of a face-saving measure.

No health issue with Carlos. Obvious smokescreen.
