Vlad has the power to hit a ball 500 feet and were not trying to get this guy to just pull balls in the air it's insane. He shouldn't be late on 91 down the middle man it happens way too much.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/blue-jays-vladimir-guerrero-jr-being-held-back-by-inability-to-get-the-ball-airborne/

Last season Guerrero had a 49.6 percent ground ball rate and a 6.7-degree average launch angle. Those numbers are too low for a player with his natural strength and power, so what he's doing early this season is really concerning. It's still early, yes, and this has already been a weird season for the Blue Jays, but Vlad Jr. sought to improve his launch angle in spring training, and it hasn't happened. Here's what he told MLB.com's Keegan Matheson in February:

[Manager Charlie] Montoyo joked earlier in camp that he'll have Guerrero doing pushups any time he hits a ground ball in batting practice, and the topic is clearly on the hitter's mind, too.

"I've been working with [hitting coach Guillermo Martinez] a lot on the launch angle," Guerrero said. "Last year, there were a lot of balls that hit at the wall. This year, hopefully, I'll put them in the air so they go out."

An article from the 2020 season. It's literally been going on for 4 years now (not counting 2021). He's just a waste of talent and we clearly have no idea how to fix him.

It's not only Martinez and Barger. Horwitz is doing well too. Horwitz is 26. Barger 24. Martinez is still young but even Palmegiani is 24. This is such a waste.

Vogelbach isn't bad if you need him. IKF isn't bad if you need him. We don't need either one. It's just typical of Atkins and his defense first or filler acquisitions. De Jong last year wasted a spot until Clement more than adequately filled it.

And as for the comment that Springer is more talented than Clement. If he is more talented and playing like the Springer of old then yes he could put up better #s than Clement except he hasn't shown it since last season. It's unrealistic thinking like this that keeps Springer in the leadoff spot no matter his results. After all, he's more talented, a former star and thus a bigger name.

Quite frankly, it's a minor miracle that Clement even made the team after being an afterthought despite last season's results.

One of the reasons I did not like throwing 15 million over two years for a mediocre player like IKF was because I wanted guys like Clement, Martinez, and Barger to get an extended look. Clement deserves more time to play, but he cannot due to a guy like IKF making the money he does and Atkins wanting him to get a certain number of bats.
