If that is so Bichette should have been traded forever ago

So far batting lineup looks like this

RF Springer
SS Bichette
1B Vladdy
C/DH Kirk
3B Chapman
DH/C Jansen
LF/C Varsho (L)
2B Espinal/Merrifield
CF Kiermaier (L)

Still to be seen if Varsho can sustain. I'll take Moreno (even with the loss of power) over what ever Varsho can do (half his war is from defence... good luck projecting that).

There's definitely a level of risk in this trade. I mean defense is hard to project but I doubt he goes from leading the majors in some defensive metrics to being bad lol. A lefty power bat with great defense was what we needed. I wanted a more established star for Moreno but his 4 yrs of control are huge too.

Blue chip prospects should never be traded (or traded only for star players). Varsho is not a star player.

LOL, or they're trying to compensate. Addison Barger will probably make the team now.

i'm good with this. if kiermaier stays healthy then our OF, which has been bad for years, is legitimately good defensively now. sucks to give up gabby, it does, but gurriel had marginal value and we're filling a need with a 4-5 fWAR, plug-n-play player.

Gurriel was injured too often. With the supposed end to the shift, outfield D even more important.

That’s pretty damn good.

If we do some vet signings like Cueto and Pollock, I’ll be really excited about this roster.

Dumb shift question: under the new rules, could you have gamed them by dropping your 3rd baseman back into left field, let your SS cover the whole left side of the infield, and shift your outfielders around? Or do the new rules take care of that too?

It's too bad there's nothing really can be done to break up the top 6 righties

Not gonna debate the merits of Varsho. His profile fits what the Jays need (good D in OF, controllable, power, speed). But when a top 10 prospect in MLB is traded away who plays a prime defensive position, the player coming back better not have any question marks around his future output. Can that be said about Varsho? Ack.

No clue if we will win more games, but worst case, the losses will be less frustrating with only one bad defender left. SS isn’t an important defensive position, right?

Can you get a 26 year old with no questions for a single great prospect and a year of Gurriel though?

I’ve been told that shortstop defense is overrated.

Granted that was in my weekly phone call with Mrs Bichette.

good thing Bichette has a sick bat because ya, he would have been traded as well.

No more shift, majority of batters in MLB are righties...

I remember how upset people were when we traded Austin Martin. Martin has struggled ever since. Moreno is an excellent prospect but at this point that's all he is.

Absolutely terrible... You're trading your top prospect who's top 5 overall for Varsho who has a 235 AVG with a sub 800 OPS, not to mention throwing in Gurriel also... Shatkins will regret this.

It's a great shifting of team mindset. We are always loaded on power and hitting, now finally attention to bullpen, starters, and defense.
