Great pitchers have had rough starts before. I think he'll he fine based on past results.

Pitch clock variable didn't exist in those situations and it is something that is pretty clearly affecting him.

Should've went fastball he was so late on 95 down the middle anywhere good would've been a K.

His command.

Wasn't he known for hitting a lot of batters

Have you ever seen Manoah pitch? He purposely throws up and in on guys. There's a cost to that.

Manoah has always gotten outs through his pinpoint FB command generally. Slider has been a great pitch at times too, particularly to RHBs.

I'd argue more his movement than his command. Manoah has typically had good control more than command...he was around the zone. But he also has inconsistent movement and it often played to his advantage, because it's bloody difficult to hit a fastball that might go in any number of directions.

Right now though, he isn't missing around the zone, he's just missing.

Agreed, but he deserved that outcome. Terrible inning.

No way we're getting a hit on McClanahan. That's it.

What a Bizarre start to this year. Kikuchi looking like Manoah of last year and Manoah looking like Kikuchi of last year.

I say give him a quarter of a season before doing anything stupid with him in the rotation. Thankfully we are buoyed by Guasman, Berrios and Kikuchi

Movement was and is certainly a factor (righties appear to have a hell of a time distinguishing all of his pitches out of his hand), but he has always thrived on his FB command (with both types of FB) and that is nowhere to be found right now.

I'm asking because I have seen him. Compared to other aces who have countless different pitches, consistently touch upper 90s to 100, or have insane movement on his pitches, he seemed very average. But somehow he would get guys out. It was something I always thought in my head last season because he essentially threw 2 pitches and somehow he was elite. His slider is pretty nasty but it never looked like his 2 seamer had that much run.

Yeah, he was clear he hated PitchCom before and now he has to use it or rush through signs. He's struggling more than most with this, but I'm sure he'll figure it out. Hopefully sooner than later.

He's definitely rushing through his process on the mound due to the clock and it appears to be costing him in numerous ways. I'd assume somebody like him will eventually adjust (Bassitt sort of has?) but he hasn't yet.
