Nats at Marlins

Post#1 » by Jollay » Sat Jul 17, 2010 6:12 pm

Strasburg shuts the Marlins down in Game 1, and the Nats go on to win 4-0. He was shaky in the first three innings, but very strong in his last three. It really seems like teams are very conscious of his pitch limit, and try and milk the count in the early innings as long as possible. Strasburg was just off the plate alot early with his fastball, and so he ran his pitch count pretty high and was only able to go six.

Nats get all their runs in the sixth, most on a Josh Willingham 3 RBI double. Storen and Capps were flawless after that, only giving up a walk each in three innings of work between them.

Nats faced Nolasco in Game 1, and have another tough assignment tonight in all-star Josh Johnson. Livo goes for DC.

After that it's the shaky trio of Stammen, Martin, and Atilano on tap. Atilano got shelled in AAA in a tuneup start over the break. Not encouraging, but other options appear on the way.

Nats get beat 2-0 by Johnson. They get 11 hits and can't score any runs, amazingly. Worst episode of baserunning was Adam Kennedy rounding third and getting thrown out by 15 feet at home on a ground ball up the middle.

Pat Listach and Adam Kennedy--a dangerous combination.

Game 3 is today with Stammen versus Sanabia, a RHP 21-year old rookie (called up a while ago from AA) making his second start. Don't know too much about him, other than he'll be on a pitch count today.

Ugh. Nats are just not hitting with RISP.

Bases loaded in the third with one out and nothing. Stammen even led off the inning by getting on.

0-0 bottom of the third.

Nats shut out 1-0.

Four runs in three games-Nats are lucky to win one. It's going to be real hard to justify not re-signing Dunn or trading Willingham with the offense challenged enough as it is.
