Does it really even matter any more? Who cares who juiced...let's just assume everybody did it and move on with our lives.

I still think it matter. I hope Arod gets the same treatment that Bonds and McGwire are getting.

Rodriguez's name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball's '03 survey testing, SI's sources say. As part of a joint agreement with the MLB Players Association, the testing was conducted to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing across the major leagues in 2004.

But of course instead of taking the opportunity to get a feel for the actual scale of steroid use in baseball, the media is going to turn this into yet another ARod bashfest.

That was kind of the idea of the whole thing anyway, which is why it was done anonymously. The names were never supposed to be leaked. His name ended up coming out, but so what.....that doesn't change the fact that he tested positive for steroids.

I personally am loving this, as it finally gives us a chance to see how people REALLY feel. Just the other day on Mike and Mike, people were emailing in talking about how all of Bonds' stats and records need to be removed from the books since it was found that he used steroids or whatever. Golic pointed out that if you're going to do that for Bonds, then you'd need to do it for everyone who has ever tested positive or admitted to taking roids. So how are people going to look at the situation now, with the information that A-Rod also used the juice? Will he get the same treatment as Bonds, for doing the exact same thing? Or do people give him a break on it, because they don't dislike him as much as they do Barry?

In all honesty, I really don't give flying **** about steroid use in sports....but since everyone else seems so caught up in it, it's nice to finally be at a point where it's put up or shut up time.

id argue people dislike arod as much as barry. he's more smug then barry, a grade-a douchebag

im just curiuos as to why the media has always been out to get baseball when id bet it's 2X as bad in football and yet they've pretty much gotten a free pass on all of it.

It's much worse than 2x. I know a writer for ESPN and it's all but demanded that they avoid the steroids in the NFL topic. No idea why, though.

It’s because there’s this sort of pastoral and poetic innocence that is culturally ingrained in baseball and people don’t want that childlike naiveté destroyed. People hold baseball players in a much higher moral regard than that of other sports.

This sucks. Not because I care that someone took steroids, but because that's all ESPN is going to talk about for the next decade.

Yup.

That and the fact that players who play today are not only playing against their modern day opponents, but they are also playing against players of the past when it comes to stat comparisons. Technically baseball is a team sport, but in the historic sense it's more of an individual sport. Rarely do you ever see a baseball debate where it's 1960's Team X vs. 1990's Team Y, it's usually Player X vs. Player Y whereas in football people usually debate who is the best TEAM ever or who would win the 60's Packers or the 80's 49ers.

Unfortunately ARod will not get the Bonds treatment because Bonds was an a-hole to reporters and ARod is not.

If Bond's HR record is not "legitimate" in critics' eyes, then neither should ARod's record (if he ever breaks Aaron's record).

Given the high likelyhood that Hank Aaron also used performance enhancing drugs, should we also disregard his record?

Or should we just regard this "legitimacy" question as an extremely slippery slope and not worry too much about it?
