FG% in this league doesn't mean anything its all about TS% which he was above average last season and slightly below average this season. He mostly shoots threes (4.2 of his 6.2 FGAs this season) which is why his FG% is low.

That said, his numbers looked really good as a 22 year old second year player in this league but his number did fall off a bit this year and apparently there was some tension between him and his coach this season so perhaps a fresh start and larger opportunity will be just what he needs. Worst case for us I think is he's a solid 9th or 10th guy in our rotation I feel like he's better than guys like Knox, Livers, etc.

donte divincenzo signed with the knicks for $12.5M/yr this past off season. grimes began the year as a starter but lost his spot to divincenzo about a month into the season and his minutes have been up and down since then.

he's pretty one-dimensional and relies on others to create offense for him so i don't think he'll have the best chance to thrive here, at least this season. it's hard to have a larger opportunity (bigger role) without the actual ability to take on that role. defense is definitely where he'll have a chance to earn his minutes.

If Grimes plays with the projected starters, there is a lot of creators out there, Cunningham/Ivey/Ausar/Duren I would say are all pretty good at creating for others, at least above average for their position.

Grimes is his half-brother (same mother). First set of “brothers” to play in the NHL and NBA. Kinda interesting. It’s towards the bottom of the wiki article, under Personal.

“Yeah, It's been pretty fast. It kind of happened right away, I got to get used to the team. I know most of the guys on the team already. I'm really excited to be here to kind of get to know everybody, know the plays and just know Coach (Monty) Williams and stuff like that. It should be really fun.”

Grimes played college ball at the University of Houston with Marcus Sasser. He also talked about their relationship as teammates now and how they connected after the trade happened per Edwards.

“He (Sasser) hit me up about an hour right after blowing my phone up and calling me. I was just telling him we're back at it like the U of H days. You can tell it's a really good group of guys and you can tell something's gonna be pretty good cooking up soon.”

Grimes and the former Knicks did not suit last game for the Pistons against the Clippers since the trade is still pending. They may be available by Detroit's next game on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
