Open Roster Spot

Post#1 » by Mr Peanut » Sun Feb 11, 2024 3:27 am

So after waiving Killian, Danilo, Arcidiacono, Harris and House Jr, it turns out that we now have an open roster spot. Is there a young guy we should give some time to? Or just upgrade Umude to a full-time spot?

I don’t really have anyone on my radar.

Hopefully they waive Fournier and create another open spot.

The funny thing here, is that Weaver said we had to waive Killian because of taking on extra players but he cut 5 guys after needing to only cut 4  He was just **** done watching Killian Hayes play.

It’s almost like Weaver thinks everyone is a casual fan and he can just say anything lol

Leave the spot open in case someone somewhat helpful (or worth looking at becomes available, once a playoff team takes one of the vets made available.

If that doesn’t happen, promote Stanley and add a project stretch 4 to a 2 way

He asked out and wasn’t going anything good for the team.

That doesn’t make for as good a press conference soundbite though does it?

I would have loved it if Weaver said "Killian wanted a change of scenery and no one wanted to trade for him so we waived him so he could get that change of scenery". He made it sound like it was an unfortunate result of the trades forcing roster cuts but he actually cut one more player than he needed to which I find funny.

If we waive Fournier it results in his team option for next season being automatically picked up, so he is here to stay (for this season). I think he's not a bad piece to have sitting on the bench for emergency minutes - kind of like the role McGruder used to play.

I’ve heard people cite that but I haven’t seen that officially anywhere.

Can you share a legit source?

I’m not doubting you, I’ve just never heard anything like it.

I will take any player that has the chance to kick Wiseman out of all potential rotations. That's it. The only hurdle to clear.

I was digging around to try and confirm that but it looks to be false.

That’s only true if it’s a player option.

Since its a team option, it can be declined before he’s waived.

There's not a lot of information on that area so hard to be sure. I was going off what other fans had said with some level of certainty.

If you waive someone with a pending player option then yes, that option would be picked up and the player would get that full salary, but obviously wouldn't be on your roster anymore.

For a team option, are you even able to decline it this far out? If so then yes, would seem logical to do that before you waive someone if you didn't want them around anymore (I'm guessing Weaver thinks Fournier has something left to give though so is keeping him around for now).

Ha! The guy I was disappointed to see get abducted by from our backyard by Memphis before the trade deadline. A guy who was playing well for the Cruise @ a position of need.
Looks like he played a few games in Memphis and did very little, outside of a 12 rebound game.

Seems like a decent prospect to give a shot. He’s got a super intriguing build and skill set

But that's not what's going to happen. He's going to be force-fed significant minutes.

You’re saying that about Evan?

Based on what?

Fontecchio, Milton, and Brown Jr have already played as Pistons. Two of which played significant minutes, while Evan didnt.

I feel like they are keeping Evan because he’s a veteran with good shooting skills. Like a really expensive assistant

Evan didn't play because none of the guys from the Knicks trade played. It was still being finalized.

I really wish I could remember which podcast it was I heard that on. I swear it was one of the beat writers that said it.

Certainly wouldn't doubt Monty gives Fournier a bunch of minutes just based on him being a veteran. Watch him get minutes over Grimes or eat into Ivey's time.
