For comparison's sake (and rem, feel free to ignore this, like any other logical argument against this style of drafting), lets look at Handsborough compared to Shelden...

Handsborough scored 25% of UNC's offensive points, but the "big" names in the conference were JJ Hickson and James Gist.

Shelden Williams scored 23% of Duke's offensive points, but the "big" names in his conference were Craig Smith, Jared Dudley, Alexander Johnson, Handsborough, Cedric Simmons, and Eric Williams.

If you compare reb%s, Shelden was better there. Blocking? FG%? Stealing? All Shelden... there you have it... being a college stud / NBA stiff knows no race..

so who are we gonna take with next years #1 pick?...the '09 draft is eerily similar to the '95 draft with lots of losers like Griffin, Mullens, and Hardin at the top...the real talent is in the 4-9 slots...will Mullin do the right thing and trade down for Jrue??

Yes Khoee... the anti-HardEn machine starts amid reports that his athleticism has impressed thus far... the question is, how quickly will you flipflop once you watch him?

I'll roughly compare him to a poor man's Joe Johnson... @ worst a Dunleavy-esque player. I wouldn't take him top 5 right now - way too many potential laden SGs like DeRozan and Evans who still need to play against high level competition - but if they prove to be too raw, a pick like this in the top 5 is a solid one..

And the passing... man... this guy has all the know how and basketball smarts you can at such a young age..

Monta - Harden - Randolph - Wright - Biedrins would be a damn good ball movement unit... long on defense too...

I'll be all over DeRozan or Evans over Harden though if either of them shows even half of the awareness Harden does...

BJennings is not off to a good start in Europe... not a shock. I dont think he'll improve much over there either.. I can smell his bad attitude from here..

I hate wasted talent :banghead:

old rem wrote: There also was another rd 1 pick the year we drafted Gatling and Vic Alexander..can't recall the name but he was a PF who was never on the season roster if he even showed for preseason camp.

That would be Shaun Vandiver who like Russell Cross, had a bum knee. However, unlike Cross, at least he was a late first rounder.

My observations from yesterdays game: Curry is very good, but i dont think we will know his ability to play PG till he gets into the NBA since he may literally have to score 35+ every game for his team to win. Griffin is pretty solid, but i wouldnt take him top 5. Willie Warren is a good one though. Tyreke Evans has an ugly shot, doesnt pass much, but can score any time he wants. Budinger is still overrated.

Willie Warren reminds me of Stuckey a little bit.

I liked, not loved Warren... I believe SeNiLe and I had a conversation in the game thread, and we pretty much agreed on the players, even though I begrudgingly like Curry... he's really hard not to like, the more you see him play, even if he does become a role player like I think... miles of heart.

This thread does need a sticky... itll be the most fun this year outside of the sparse Wright/AR playing time..

ive been hyping the harden wagon for over a year now... and he is still the guy i want if we are going with Monta at the PG spot. His only downside is average athleticism, which isn't even a downside in my eyes... it just means he hasn't been spending the last 5 years trying to dunk on everyone.

He is the most all-around player in the country that ALSO has nba athleticism. And he happens to be at the position we need help at (before lights out morrow showed up at least).

Here's 5 guys that will be steals in the draft:
James Harden - a better Roy IMO.
Stephen Curry - Will make the transition to PG just fine, thus becoming decent sized.
Eric Maynor - will probably pass up Lawson, collison, and Mills in alot of boards.
Patrick Patterson - once his ankle is fully healed he is gonna beast on fools.
Vitor Faverani - longshot, but HUGE upside in late first or early second.

Lawson looks like crap to me. I hope he's not on our radar.

Mills is electric, but so small. I like him and his heart, but next to Monta he's a little small.
