Carlos Delgado 2008

Post#1 » by randomhero423 » Thu Aug 23, 2007 3:41 am

How will the Mets solve this probelm? The guy is obviously a black hole in this lineup, and he's not a great fielder to justify him in the lineup everyday. He's obviously past his prime, and will be back in orange/blue in '08.

Any ideas on what the Mets can do?

Easy.

Just bring back Shawn Green and platoon them at first base.

- ok, really.

Delgado is hurting us this year, hopefully he bounces back, but if he doesn't - if he's worse - we have to bench him. If he's about the same, we should look seriously at platooning him. Easley isn't a bad option. It's not great having whatever it is - 17 million tied into an average to below average player, but overall, this team is pretty good. We can work around another year like this one by Delgado.

From a GM perspective - you have to hope Delgado bounces back. It would be crazy to actually plan on replacing him, but it would make sense to have a solid back up first baseman in the roster next year. Easley's OK, he's hit well this year, but he also plays 2nd base, so a 2nd backup option might be good, maybe a lefty - as Easley's a righty - and lefty hitting first basement aren't that hard to find. We'd need a guy who could play 1B/OF or 1B/3B - something like that.

We're using Shawn Green in that role now, and the truth is, he's not terrible at it. I don't know if resigning Green would make sense though, cause he'd be asked to play a reserve role.
Now it's all about the off-season for my Knicks. (and rooting for Boston to crush Indiana).

Delgado should bat in the 8th hole and switch with Lastings.

calm down. Dude was on fire before he was out for a few games. He just needs some more ABs to get back into it.

He has wrist surgery in the offseason so that could of slowed him down this year.

This year? - maybe.

2008? - nah. Conine's 41 and Green's average. I'd rather find a better solution - but we're not the yankees. Don't want to eat Delgado's salary. Hope he bounces back.

Just go with Carp. He probably could hit better than Delgado at this point.

1. His name is Mark Teixeira
2. The Braves gave a fortune of good minor league talent/prospects for him.
3. They are going to extend.
4. He grew up in ATL and played at Georgia Tech so he's not going anywhere.
5. Just because we are the mets dont mean we can get any FA we want.

Also neef, Dont be silly with the Mike Carp refrence. He's nowhere next to being a major league level calibur player but he has good potential.

Im passing on Teixeira easily, I dont want him on this team. I have no problem in giving Delgado an entire offseason to get healthy, something he has not been yet this entire season. Plus as for other FA first basemen there are not that many good ones. We need to focus on a catcher not worry who is going to replace Delgado.

you know, he might not rub you the right way for whatever reason, but a 30hr/110 rbi switch hitting firstbaseman thats under 30? cmon................ I might not pursue him heavily in 2 years, but I would call him up and ask for ballpark figures.

edit: i think hes a gold glover too...

Man, atlanta is going to have to atleast be in that area. Dont forget his agent is SCOTT BORAS. Boras is about making money for his athletes. He shipped zito to a terrible team, and got arod to bite on an equally terrible team when he as a FA.

What makes me think boras cant/wont make mark tex to do the same? nothing. His track record says that unless atlanta offers upwards of 8/140 how can he stay? It would be completely against everything Boras has done in the past.

Doesnt matter, he's younger then Andruw Jones and the Braves are going to let Jones and his 15M per year and pay whatever Teixeira WANTS. He will be a Brave for the rest of his career.

Im well aware of what he brings to the table, its another thing that I dont like about him. His agent and what his price tag is going to be. I never want to overspend completely for a player because of there agent. Thats why I liked it when we didnt land Zito. I like to get players who have yet to break out, and better yet I love developmental players.

You dont have to overpay for position players, its the pitchers that you have to overpay for. So thats why im passing on Teixeira, and more importantly I want to see his "power" numbers in Shea.
