Re-signing Current Panthers

Post#1 » by ohara » Thu Jul 28, 2011 12:37 am

Aside from the 2 big ones - Johnson and Williams - we have several players we want to keep in the fold. Thought we should have 1 Thread just for all of them.

Great news to hear of 5 year extensions on Thomas Davis and James Anderson. Now, I believe they are targeting Kalil and Beason for extensions next. Keep the young studs happy and locked up for several years. Smart moves being made by the FO!

Not sure if we will extend him again, but it looks like all the talk of trading Steve is now a mute issue. He's a Panther to stay. Glad to hear it. Would not have liked trading him for a 3rd rounder.

Honestly, I think he was saying that because he feared a long rebuilding period. With the lockout over, it seems that Jerry is in spending mode again.

Jeff King signed with the Cardinals (guess that explains Hartsock).

Would like to see us get Marshall and St. Pierre (veteran 3rd string QB, good to have) resigned. Also wouldn't mind Wilson but doubt he's back with our CB draft picks this year (that may go for Marshall too). Don't care about Matt Moore at this point. Rosario is probably out the door with our TE deals today.

With the trade for Greg Olsen today I think it is a pretty safe bet that Rosario is out the door. Glad to see Steve Smith sticking around too - is definitely still worth much more than a third round pick

Yes! Extended Beason - 5 yr for $50 mil. Keeping the good ones! Love what JR is doing right now with our Panthers!

Anyone have an update on Marshall?

Looks like Kasay hasn't retired but we released him. He'll probably retire but it would suck to see him somewhere else for one season.

The Panthers also released defensive ends Tyler Brayton and Hilee Taylor and withdrew tender offers made to defensive tackle Ed Johnson, quarterback Keith Null and linebacker Nic Harris, making all five players free agents along the Kasay.

Brayton is getting older, Taylor never showed much, Ron Edwards made Johnson expendable, didn't even know Keith Null was on the roster ( ), and I guess Gaither replaces Harris (surprised we removed the offer on Harris since he's only 24).

Just signed Ryan Kalil to a 6 year deal which makes him the highest paid Center in the NFL. Will be just over the amount NIck Mangold got last year to become the highest paid Center. Very nice to tie up allthe major components to long term deals. Now, we need a couple more impact players to add and everything will be good.

We did not resign Kasay, and now the Saints sign him. Their main kicker is injured. Man, I would really hate to lose to them on a late FG by Kasay. Would be a kick in the gut.

Damn.

Good retention on Beason, Kalil, et al. though. Not exactly sure who's playing DE after this gradual exodus...

Wait, I thought Kasay would retire. Him on the Saints is sacrilege.

LOoks like a couple days before the Opener we sign Charles Godfrey to an extension: 5 yr $27.5 mil. Very happy with that signing.
