Seems like a Ryan Pace draft class so far. Intelligent, hard-working players with above average athleticism/speed.

So concludes the NFL draft. Bears selections include:

1. Roquan Smith, linebacker, Georgia;
2. James Daniels, center, Iowa;
2. Anthony Miller, wide receiver, Memphis;
4. Joel Iyiegbuniwe, linebacker, Western Kentucky;
5. Bilal Nichols, defensive tackle, Delaware;
6. Kylie Fitts, defensive end/outside linebacker, Utah;
7. Javon Wims, wide receiver, Georgia

It looks like we added some depth at linebacker and wide receiver. While we filled some holes, it doesn't look like we were able to grab a dominant pass-rusher this year. The O-line looks solid and there are several playmakers at the skill positions.

The biggest questions going into the 18-19 season are:
-Can Trubisky take the next step?
-Will the secondary continue to play at a high level or will guys like Amos and Fuller regress?
-How long until the players become comfortable with the new offensive system?
-Are we going to be able to pressure the opposing QB?

They signed CB Tolliver from LSU. He has some talent.

Pace likes his Georgia boys. Floyd, Quan, and now Wims.

The last 4 picks are pretty much "hope for the best" propositions. Never heard of any of them. Pace has done well on these kinds of picks.

The first 2 picks need to be immediate starters and figure to be. Miller needs to be startable, even if he doesn't start.

When I look at free agency and the draft, I'm pretty happy with what I see. It was extremely hard to judge Trubisky last season with a receiving corps that was basically trash. They have several guys who should be legit weapons now. If Long comes back healthy, their offensive line should be a strength.

On defense, I like the D-backfield returnees. As you noted, pass rush is the glaring weakness. The Bears defense needs to be healthier than average to be a strength of the team.

As with most teams trying to claw their way back to respectability, the Bears can't afford to be unlucky (again) with injuries since their depth isn't what you'd like it to be. This said, some guarded optimism is warranted IMO.

Pace inherited the worst roster in the NFL outside the Browns. He’s done a fine job.

He hasn't. He's been among the worst in the NFL. But he started to do better when he landed Trubisky and hired Nagy. And he seems to have turned the page this off-season. Luckily for him he has had the good fortune of getting a long honeymoon to learn on the job.

Of the six teams that finished worse than the Bears in 2014 -- just before Pace arrived -- four have since made the playoffs and all six have won 9 or more games at least once.

A fifth team won 10 games, but missed the postseason.

Of the eight teams that were worse than the Bears in 2015, six have won at least 9 games and two have made the playoffs.

Of the three teams that finished worse than the Bears in 2016, one made the playoffs with 10 wins, one is Cleveland and one is San Francisco, which stole Jimmy Garoppolo for a second-round pick and the 1-10 Niners proceeded to win each of Garoppolo's 5 starts in 2017 -- including the Robbie Gould game at Soldier Field in December when Garoppolo won his first start for the Niners

And then, there was the 2017 season. The era of Glennon.

The bears also had the worst defense in franchise history right before pace came in. Also, they were one of the oldest teams, if not the oldest, in the league. We also had a horrible coaching staff. We now have a great coaching staff. He's hit on most of his draft picks. He's signed a lot of hit or miss FAs and unfortunately, a good amount have been misses but PAce has had the wisdom to sign them to contracts that don't leave us cap strapped. And a lot of those misses would be home runs if some of those players could stay on the field.

Those quotes you shared are misleading. The teams that finished worse than the bears in 2014 have been bad for several years and two drafted their franchise QB (Bucs and Titans) both of which missed the playoffs with their rookie QBs. Those teams were at the tail end of their rebuilding process. The 2015-16 also featured two teams drafting franchise Qbs (rams and eagles) both teams missed the playoffs after the following season. Other teams that picked ahead of the bears were the Cowboys, Jags, and Chargers. The cowboys only finished that bad because of injuries so to use them as an example of where the bears should be in the rebuilding process is wrong. The chargers are also a bad example because they've had a top roster for 15 years but its their MO to either be one of the best or one of the worst teams in the NFL. And then there's the Jags who have been rebuilding for nearly 10 years.

This draft didn’t do a lot to address the pass rush and the roster doesn’t have much depth at corner. Two key positions that need to be addressed when going up against the QBs in our division esp A-12. The Bears tried the approach of building a roster to outscore A-12 before and that didn’t work out. I know some undrafted candidates have been signed to compete for spots on the defense but, the likelihood of any of those making the kind of impact needed to pressure the QBs in NFC North is not very good and we need to be able to cover their wideouts. And while we didn’t truly prepare to defend against their key weapons, if you guys noticed the Pack drafted both the 2nd and 3rd CBs in the draft. They definitely are preparing for us defensively.

Yes! And what the heck is the purpose of transition tagging the players? We could have retained Fuller for less.

Regardless of what reasons someone wants to use for Pace and the teams struggle so far, the results/wins NEED to start showing up on the field.

No more excuses from here on out. Period

Hahhaha. Feel like you have this gun loaded for some time:)))

I think Pace held onto Fox one year too many. He himself has said that he saw Trubisky sitting the whole rookie season. Fox was the wrong guys for a young QB but the right guy to build the defense.

If we aren't .500 and competing for a playoff spot this season its going to get ugly. IMO if we stay relatively healthy we will make the playoffs and be a really fun team to watch. I like Nagy alot and I like Money Mitch too. Both are leaders.

Pace did by no means get us into this mess. The defense was at ZERO when he came in with no real young players to speak of outside of Fuller. The offense was aging rapidly with team cancers at WR and TE. Jay was on the wrong side of 30 with a bad contract, Forte was done and Pace has steadily built a strong, young foundation here.

Please go position by position and tell me where Pace has failed this 2018 Bears team. I personally think they're weak at Edge and every single other slot has been filled very nicely with a majority of young players.
