Jays back on CBC

Post#1 » by Banger_bro » Thu May 31, 2007 12:18 am

This is in the Daily paper thread, but worth bringing up.

8 games this season, up to 30 next season. And it also brings the return of Jim Hughson to the baseball broadcast booth! I look forward to that.

I remember the good old days when they used to have John Cerutti and that olympics guy doing the play by play on the weekends. Hopefully it's as good.

It will be better. Before there was Shulman/Buck there was Hughson/Buck..

I wonder who will be doing the color though? Does CBC get the say or the Bluejays?

I believe CBC can only use CBC employees. Maybe it's a union thing. So, no Pat Tabler, etc. And Brian WIlliams is with TSN now.

I also loved Jim Hughson from back in the day, but his voice is too recognizable as a hockey guy now. He does the voice for EASports NHL Series. And he's been living in Vancouver, calling Canucks games, all these years, so I'm pretty sure he hasn't been following the Jays for a while.

Bob Cole ! He broadcasts mostly all the saturday night leaf games and all sens games throughout the playoffs. I'm sure he can do the colour commentary for the Jays.

the only association I have of Jim Hughson with baseball was back when I was a kid, and played Triple Play '97... yeah, I don't have any memories of him doing baseball.. how was he?

Personally, I thought Jim was good. Almost up to Dan Shulman territory, but it has been a while since I heard Hughson doing ball, so my memory may be a bit off.

As for the person who suggested Cole to Color. Cole is a play by play man. Usually the colour guy is a former player who got in to broadcasting. But at the very least, he has to have been in the game for a while.
