The Angels have the best 8th/9th inning combination. Both the Red Sox and the Twins have good closers, but their setup man are performing WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY over their heads and it won't continue.

Uh, Neshek has pitched at this high level over the course of 73 big league appearances and 294 minor league innings. It's safe to say he's pretty good.

Relievers often come in with runners on base, or leave with their own runners on base. Inherited runners scored is another good one. Often times, relievers let up runs that are charged to pitchers before them. These runs are not charged to them

I'm going with Okajima and Papelbon. Okijima has given up something like only like 4 runs in 40 appearances and his era is like .90. Thats awesome Papelbon hasn't been has good as last year, but he's still amazing with an era around two and 20ish saves.

This thread should just be renamed: "Who is your teams 8th/9th inning guys."

Thats why I said the homerism on this board sucks.

The majority of us around here know who the top 8th or 9th inning guys are around the league.

Geez what if I said something like Rivera and Scott Proctors frayed rotator cuff? I'd fit right in.

I'm still going with Shields and K-Rod. I went to the game Saturday and they were filthy for 5 innings, them and Lacky shut down the Yankees

Dont the Angels have some gaudy record going right now for not losing a game while leading after the 8th. I think its like 150+ or something. I know that doesnt take into account the 8th inning but Shiels is still nasty. I remember a couple of years ago there was a poll of the best closers in the AL and it went Rivera, K-Rod, etc... and a few GMs said Shields would be third if he was a closer. He still has nasty stuff and most importantly he rarely gets hurt.

No they don't. I remember k-rod blowing some games earlier this season.
