The Final 53

I posted a bunch of stuff on different places from cut day and a roster analysis. Here are some links:

This breaks out the 53-man roster by position. I was in a bad mood when writing the bulk of it so the grades are probably a little low

A couple extra thoughts:
-I'm not upset at all that Hepburn and Fuller didn't make the roster. They were projects and everyone knew that. Neither was as good in camp as either I or the Lions expected them to be. Disappointing yes, but not a reason to get angry.

-I definitely would have kept Matt Willis over Kris Durham

-I'm exploring today to see if there was any viable trade talk about Leshoure, Hill, and any of the cut guys. I know the Lions quietly floated it out there that they would listen to offers for Leshoure and for depth OL.

--I still firmly believe the 5th wideout is not currently on the roster.

I definitely would have kept Willis over Spurlock.....no need to keep a return specialist with 90+% of kickoffs being touchbacks nowadays. Edwards or Riddick could have returned punts. Spurlock, IMO, is a waste of a roster spot when we'd be better served by having a somewhat decent WR in his place.

The Lions have signed S Gomes off waivers. No word yet on who we are going to cut....or will he just take Owen's spot on the 53-man roster? The Lions have put Owns on the short-term IR, I believe.

Surprised that Willis got cut given he was really good during camp and preseason. Kinda sends the wrong message but what can ya do? Spurlock staying surprised me. I'm really hoping Hepburn, Fuller and Greenwood make it to the PS and get some work in there

They have....

http://www.freep.com/article/20130901/S ... 309010114/

cornerback Chris Greenwood
wide receiver Corey Fuller
linebacker Brandon Hepburn
running back Steven Miller
fullback Shaun Chapas
guard Rodney Austin
defensive tackle Xavier Proctor
defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen

ps -- Looks like we added S Gomes (waived by Washington) and cut LB Rocky McIntosh today.

i was very surprised they cut willis as well. though is the difference between Durham and willis really that significant to this team? glad to see that Greenwood made it to the PS. i hope we can make a trade and not lose anything really significant
