#5 and our 2nd rounder to the Jets for #9 and #13 -- Any takers?

If Joekel and Fisher are gone by #5, I hope we trade down. Maybe some team will be desperate for Lance Johnson, Geno Smith, or Dee Milliner?

It's less than two days out from the 1st round and I don't know who is going in any slot 1-5. I know that two of those picks will be Fisher and Joeckel and I'm about 95% sure one will be Dion Jordan.

I have a feeling that if Lane Johnson is on the board he is going to be the pick. Would not be my choice. I would take Ziggy Ansah or Tank Carradine and I hope that the faction within the Lions that wants defense feels that way and bangs the table. The pick at 5 will be Johnson or Ansah. I still do not buy the Milliner talk.

Second round possibilities:
If OL in 1st: Darius Slay, Jamar Taylor, DeAndre Hopkins, Alex Okafor, Robert Woods, maybe Arthur Brown or Kevin Minter but I kinda doubt its LB.

If DE in 1st: Terron Armstead, Menelik Watson (likely gone), or the receivers. Maybe Larry Warford. Any of the upper tier of DTs that might fall would certainly get a long look too, guys like Sylvester Williams or even Kawann Short.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

We'd probably need to include next years 2nd to get that to work.

If Joekel and Fisher are gone, then teams most definitely are going to be looking to get ahead of us and the browns to grab johnson. Jets also reportedly would like millner at 9 to replace revis but don't think he'll fall.

If we trade down, i think the most likely target is Miami at 12 where we'd draft warmak. As much as i would love austin 1.) Austin is more a slot receiver and he's only 5' 10". We have bush. 2.) Mayhew loves lineman . as i had mentioned earlier. i would like to actually trade that pick for a late round pick and pick up a extra 2nd and 5th rounder. We draft werner and now we have 3 2nd round picks to address OL, S, WR in a draft that's deep at 2 of those 3 positions

Jordan, Ansah, Joeckel or Fisher. One of those guys should be there imo. We have to take one of them, don't reach for Lane Johnson.

So draft night eve....what's your thoughts? I really want Fisher, really don't want Lane Johnson, and expect Ansah to be the pick. I'd be happy with Ansah though, I see a kid who could become a star

@RapSheet
The #Lions -- like a lot of teams -- are big fans of how Jonathan Cooper can play center, too. Some think it's his best position.

@RapSheet
Just heard how much #Lions love G Jonathan Cooper. A guard who can run. On screens, etc. with Reggie Bush out of the backfield

I heard we really like Cooper. I've heard we have him rated higher than Warmack....

Ansah is intriguing, but isn't anybody else worried about him only having 4.5 sacks last season? I know he's raw and still learning, but that's not nearly the production I want in a guy I'm picking at #5. Or am I just over-reacting?

Eh Mingos stats aren't great either. You are drafting Ansah because you see the major raw talent and think you can mold him into a beast.

if we absolutely had to draft at 5. i have Ansah>johnson. Ansah's "growing pains" may cost us a TD or 2, Johnson's "growing pains" could cost us Staffords arm. The fact that so many teams are trying to trade up and down means its more than likely Fisher or Joekel will fall. i think Jacksonville drafts Geno, and philly goes DB,DE, or OL.

I see what you're saying here....

But isn't Johnson >>>>>>>>>> Fox or Hilliard?

Whereas Ansah could be a beast in disguise - or just flame out like Vernon Gholston.

^not necessarily, Hillard and Fox have been on the practice squad for a bit, so they are more experienced , have better technique, and according to Jim who see's them daily, is really confident in their ability. Johnson and ansah are going to take a bit of work either way and both are a risk, as mentioned earlier its who's growing pains are going to cost us wins. I'd be fine with a 2nd round OL> Johnson's potential

Its somewhat frustrating because I hear a lot of differing info on Johnson.....but for the most part, most scouts and analysts have him labeled as a very solid starting LT who could either get spot All-Star nods or be there annually. Sounds like worst-case might be Backus-level and best-case might better. I saw one guy compare him to a guy like Solder with better technique/skill already.

The only reason why he's 3rd OL of the top 3 is his rawness and lack of technique. from day 1 he's going to start, but i'm not okay with entrusting him with our 100 million dollar quarter back.

Bottom line for me, whether he's gonna be All-Pro or not, long-term, he'll be much better than Fox or Hilliard.

If protecting Stafford if key, gotta draft him. Not sure if you do that at #5, or trade down....but LT should be a priority.

truth, but

#1 at the 5th pick, it be considered a reach

#2 Fox or Hillard for next season are probably much better, if we are drafting projects, it should be 2nd-3rd and on, not first.

Sounds like OT Lane Johnson will be the pick - IF he's still there.

LT - Johnson
LG - Sims
C - Raiola
RG - Nagy or Austin
RT - Reiff

Backups: Fox, Hilliard, (Nagy or Austin), Gandy

Also -- do we entertain drafting CB Mathieu if he's still available in the 3rd round?

1 - OT Lane Johnson
2 - DE Hunt or Moore
3 - CB Mathieu or Amerson
4 - WR Rogers
5 - TE Sims
