Gutey pretty adamant he sees him as a tackle.

I would hope so if he's taking him at #25.

I obviously agree
RiotPunch wrote:Gutey loves versatility on the line. Must think he can hang outside to draft this high. In principle I don't hate it, just felt like a bit of a reach.

But most opinions I've seen has him as interior due to arm length and lack of lateral movement.

Gutey has earned my trust, just think we could have moved back and still got him. Protecting #10 is certainly the top priority.

You're assuming nobody else wanted him and that assumption might not have been worth it for an extra third or fourth round pick. We still have ten more picks, how many more do we need?

I don't care if he's tackle, guard, or center just that he's productive. There have been some great guards and centers drafted in the first round.

Not who I thought it was gonna be but this team has earned my trust when it comes to their oline evaluations

I can be a bit of a premium position draft snob but with the lack of offensive line depth league wide and how disastrous it is when you can't block I kind of think all line spots are premium positions these days.

Agreed. At the end of the day, we will all be screaming at gute if love doesn't have any time to throw the ball.

100% agree. Teams couldn't wait to throw buckets of money at any offensive lineman with a pulse in free agency, guards included. There's also nothing worse than having a good QB (who you're about to back up the money truck for) and good playmakers but watching an offense fail because of bad O-line play. Keep replenishing the talent and depth.

Sean Rhyan, Zach Tom, Josh Myers, Royce Newman, Cole Van Lanen, Jon Runyan, Jake Hanson, Simon Stepaniak, Elgton Jenkins, Cole Madison, Kofi Amichia, Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy

That's the list of OL taken by the Packers "later in the draft" over the last 8 years. Jenkins and Tom and the history of Sitton and Lang has people believing we have some lights out track record with OL later the in draft.

That list isn't very good.

Right there with ya. The tackles will always have more value but it's important to also look at the line wholistically as one unit. You're only as good as your weakest link. You need all 5 guys on the line to do their job for it all to work, so all spots become pretty important. I'm just envisioning a beefed-up line mauling over guys and making huge holes for Jacobs to walk through.

I know nothing about him or any other prospect really. They seem to be alright at picking and developing o-linemen over the last few years. If he is a solid starter for 7 or 8 years, I'm good with it

Compare that to another team and it looks good, I also think you have to include UDFA guys that hit to be fair.

The point isn't to compare it to another team. It's to say you don't pass on OL in Round 1 because you think we historically always find quality later in the draft. We don't.

I get what you're trying to say but it's worth noting you forgot Rasheed Walker on your list who has turned out pretty darn good and I'd classify Runyan as a hit as well.
