Mets vs. Cubs Series | May 14th -> May 17th

Post#1 » by Jose7 » Mon May 14, 2007 12:44 am

This is going to be a tough series. Rich Hill is no joke and Zambrano is very good despite his numbers. Marquis doesnt scare me at all. LETS GO METS!!

Jason Marquis vs. Tom Glavine
Scouting Report:
Cubs: Marquis is coming off a gem. He threw a three-hit shutout against the Pirates in a 1-0 win on Wednesday night at Wrigley, striking out five and not walking a batter. It was Marquis' fourth complete game of his career. Opposing teams are hitting just .175 against him this season.

Mets: After three no-decisions, Glavine gained the 294th victory of his career on Tuesday night in San Francisco, finishing the seventh inning for the first time in eight starts this season. He looked quite sharp, Barry Bonds' 745th home run notwithstanding. He had an 0-2 record against the Cubs in 2006.

Carlos Zambrano vs. John Maine
Scouting Report:
Cubs: Zambrano needs to get off to a good start. He took the loss in his last outing against the Pirates, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits over six innings while striking out six. Teams are batting .361 against Zambrano in the first inning, and he has given up 13 runs in the first. The problem may be mechanical -- manager Lou Piniella says it appears Zambrano is opening up too much and hitters are getting a good look at his delivery.

Mets: Maine avoided his first loss on Wednesday in San Francisco, as the Mets came through with a comeback victory. The outing was the first time in seven starts that he allowed more than two runs. Maine was hurt by a two-run homer by Dave Roberts

Marquis doesn't scare you?
He is 5-1 this year with an ERA just below 2.00

Chris Capuano was 5-0 (team 7-0 when he pitches) with a sub 3 ERA and we knocked him out after 4.

Probably our best 3 pitchers this series. Except Z has been crap. Lilly would be a better choice.
Glavine itches ever closer to 300...

The funny thing is that Hill is the pitcher that scares me most in this series. We know Marquis and I think his record clearly dont represent his talent. He really dont got anything that scares me.

Zambrano is a different pitcher this year, the whole contract dispute is really messing with his head or something.

Hill is that lefty I feel in love with first time I saw him two years ago. I feel he will give us the most difficult game.

Supposedly, he's ready to tell the Cubs to just shelve the extention talks. It's definitely affecting him. Anyone else get the impression Omar is going to offer him between 125 and 150 million this offseason?

Possibly. Although I cannot see the Cubs, a big market team, not signing him. Not sure where they are with the sale of the team, if it's been sold yet or whatever, but that would be a big loss for them if they can't get it done. It would also make you wonder why they gave all that money to Soriano if they can't sign their ace pitcher.

I think Omar has his sights set on Johan Santana.

a few years ago when the Mets were down 4-0 early in the game, I would say "there goes another loss" but now I have tons and tons of confidence even if they're down by 10 runs. This team has enough veterans in Dukes, Green, Delgado, Pornstache/Easley, etc that they know how to handle themselves when down in the game. That's gonna really payoff in the future for Wright and Reyes when they're having the younger Mets under their wings.
